Givi E52 installed

How difficult is it to install the GIVI top case rack and light kit? I heard for the SW-Motech you may need to cut a little of the plastic off.
I want to get the E52 case. I don't plan on getting side cases. This is for commuting in the city.

Well it is very easy to mount, just a matter of taking off and putting in screws, but i had a problem with mine where the holes did not line up properly to get bolted...maybe i rushed it and didnt take enough parts off but i followed the instructions it was just off by like 5mm which was a pain because it would not budge either way...i ended up being able to line everything up but had to move the exhause and then had issues bolting that back on (I didnt solve my problem, i simply moved it ) ...in the end i left a screw off. Everythings been fine, no issues, i'm very happy, i can go get grocerys with my FZ6

Are there any topcase mounts that fit over the rear seat? I never carry a passenger and could envision getting some back support out of the deal.

Putting a topcase over the pillion works very well and does give you a back rest, but you definately lose the ability to carry a passenger without a major undo. I don't know of any such set-ups for the FZ, but you could start with the standard Givi setup and fabricate a forward bracket with some dimensional aluminum. Depending on your machining and fabricating abilities- you could get really clever with it. However- that's a lot of hours of work- and some extra expense- only you can decide if it's worth it over the standard Givi system.

If you do it and can lean back into the backrest, you may want to consider some bar-backs for the handlebars too- to make the ergonomics work out.

The givi rack also works well as a generic luggage rack. I am running that with out the case and using it to hold a few various bags that I have on the back of the bike. Nice tight fit and work great.

Sorry if I'm threadjacking, but would would it work to buy a rear seat cover and then devise a mount to attach to that? How sturdy is the attachment of those rear seat cowls?

For mounting on the rear seat, I think I would just opt for a tailbag. The ones with hooks attach very sturdily to the hand rails on the side, and some of them hold quite a bit.

Like the description says, it expands to over 100% of original capacity. It has strong bungees, straps, and backpack straps, and the zippers have pulls large enough to fit a padlock through. It's no 52 Liter Givi top box, but for $50 or so, it's pretty excellent and makes a great backrest.

I've got a regular tailbag, but the bungee mounting system doesn't seem very secure (doesn't help that the bungee cords are getting tired of bungieing). But you're right, maybe the Axio tailbag would be secure enough once attached with velcro under the rear seat.

I also check out the costs of those seat cowls :jawdrop: ! Wouldn't want to be experimenting on one of those pricey puppies.
