Shin kicking is for wimps try nettle eating

Nettle, either Urtica dioica or urens has been used for a wide variety of medicinal purposes for hundreds of years. It's extremely painful to the touch due to the barbs on its shafts but this pain can be relieved by the liquid contained within the shaft as well. Here is a great piece done by the University of Maryland Medical Center.

Stinging nettle

Here is a recipe for nettle soup.

About 8 litres of loosely packed young nettle shoots.
1 onion
2 potatoes
25g butter
1.5 litres stock
Pepper, salt and nutmeg
Pick over nettle shoots shaking off any wildlife and wash in a salad spinner. Melt butter in a large pan adding the finely chopped onion and potato, sweating them for about 5 minutes. Heat the stock and add to the onions and potatoes. Add the nettle shoots, season with salt, pepper and nutmeg, then simmer for about ten minutes until the potatoes are cooked. Pour into a blender and reduce to a fine consistency. Some recipes finally add some cream or milk, but this is optional.

Trampolines are dangerous. My brother bounced me 10 feet in the air and I missed the trampoline, landed on the concrete. That didn't feel too good. Of course my brother just laughed at me.

Okay, so the UK is the land of football, so why are they using straw and not shin guard???

I swear, I waste more time here and LOVE it!

I thought I'd add some culture...

NUDE SHIN KICKING:
THE NAKED HISTORY
OF THE SPORT

This excerpt on the hidden history of Shin Kicking is from True Brits:
A Tour of 21st Century Britain in all its Bog-Snorkelling, Gurning and Cheese-Rolling Glory,
by honorary SKAB member JR Daeschner. Copyright © 2004.

(Shin kicking) was once common throughout England, Wales and parts of America…

Lancashire is now better known for clog dancing—a forerunner of American tap-dancing
—but back in the day, the locals also enjoyed clog fighting.
“Clog toe pie” wasn’t a regional delicacy, and “a leather ‘n’ timber kiss” wasn’t a sign of affection;
they both meant that you were about to receive a good kicking.
What’s more, miners would grapple against each other wearing only their clogs—stark
naked, except for their clunky, metal-trimmed footwear.
This may have been a conscious imitation of the Greeks,
or it may have simply seemed like a good idea at the time.
Whatever the reason, naked shin kicking was common throughout Greater Manchester,
when “hot and rebellious liquors were indulged in to excess,
and the Sabbath was desecrated and made hideous by drunken orgies”.

Miners from Oldham, Bacup and Ashton would pit themselves against quarrymen
from Whitworth. The Oldham “rough heads” were renowned for being as slippery as “snigs,” or eels.
But their winning streak ended after they were caught cheating by rubbing soap all over their bodies.
Another report tells of a clog fight near Manchester in 1843
between two young men
named Ashworth and Clegg—“(both in a state of nudity with the exception of
each having on a pair of strong boots)”. They kicked each other for 45 minutes…

all for one pound (£60 today). Ashworth won, but both were severely injured.
In another fight, he actually killed his opponent and emigrated
Down Under, aptly enough—though it’s unclear whether
this was his choice or Her Majesty’s Pleasure.

By odd coincidence, the Olimpyck games are on this weekend at the charming village of Chipping Camden (home of the shin kicking business). Actually known as the Robert Dover's games. Worth getting the FZ out for a visit, due to the extraordinary 'Fish Hill' which is just up the road & is a Mecca for bikers.
