While out for a ride yesterday I decided to let her rip. I was down in the rice land which is flat but there was a 15-20 mph cross wind. Wasn't sure how it was going to handle it but I just hunkered down and let her rip.

What a great bike, all the way up to a buck forty it was straight and true. Still had a little left but saw a car pull out a mile ahead and didn't want to find out the hard way it was a LEO. Forgot to check the rpm as I was a bit busy watching the road. Not to shabby for a 600, eh?
 
Wow -- that's mighty fast. As a n00b rider I have no intention of testing the limits any time soon (if ever), but I think it's a natural reaction to be curious about just how far it will push the speedo. I'm amazed how responsive these are when gunning it to get out of someone's blind spot on the highway. It feels like it could just keep winding up forever.

These are definately great bikes!! I had an encounter with a Corvette Z06 the other day. He was 2 1/2 car lengths ahead of me at a red light and when i saw him gunnning it I was in first gear so i nailed it. Caught him by the time I shifted into second gear and by the time I was in third he was about 2 1/2 car lengths behind me. Then he passed me only because i had to slow down for my exit. I believe he would have had me on the top end but i ad him all the way there!! Thats the best rush I've had thus far on my FZ6. Shes all stock except for the gutted can and mild airbox mod.:Sport:
 
RRRRAAAOOOWWWW! Reading that gets me all geared up...although, it coulda been that new Java Monster I just drank too! :)

My fun "giver her the onion" moments happened over a year ago, but I still dream about the awesomeness of what went on. I'll share a couple of them.

While I was driving across Minnesota, on my way back to my hometown, I decided to open her up on this long, straight road that was very flat for a good 3 miles. I was already up to speed (about 70 mph), I down shifted and gave it hell. By the time I hit 120, I was still in 4th (I believe), and had two more gears to get me all the way up to 151 mph!!! She still had a LITTLE more left in her, but I happened to drive through a swarm of bees!! LOL After that, I decided to slow down and clean off my visor. MAN was that a good time! :Flash: I still buzz from that every now and then.

Another time, I had a newish Mitsubishi Eclipse coming up on my butt pretty fast. I was already cruising at about 80 mph and I decided I wasn't going to let him pass. He passed my buddy (who had a 500) and that kinda pissed me off. While still in 6th gear, only gave it a little more gas and the cage couldn't keep up!!! Of course, when we all finally got to the stop sign, instead of recognizing his defeat cordially, the cager/ricer/grocery kart with an aluminum wing, gave me the bird and squeaked away. Me sitting there laughing my @$$ off with my buddy because his "sorry excuse for compensation" couldn't match the awesome power of the extension to my own manliness! lol (It's ok, I drive an Oldsmobile Achieva too)

For what it's worth, let me tell you about the FZ6 and cross winds. At 140mph with no relative wind the bike is on rails. At 140mph in the tuck a 10mph gust from a direct crosswind could mean your life because there is no room for error at that speed and those rails just got pulled out from under you by something you can not predict or see. Glad you had fun...
 
I've opened mine up on numerous occasions. The best I ever did was a buck 48. Bike was stable the whole time and I felt like it could of handled more if the engine would have been able to produce it. Never felt the need for a steering damper.
 
I almost did the same thing but I backed down at a buck 39 and she still had some left. I don't tell too many people just incase it gets back to Grandma (my wife).
 
I made the mistake of laughing at some guy who was trying to do wheelies in a parking lot while my wife was there. I made a comment like "that's not how you do it", and spent the next ten minutes trying to explain to her that I understand the concept behind wheelies. I'm not entirely sure she believed me...

Hello all well let me tell you from a true noobie. I got on my main road today for the first time and I had it opened up to a brave 48mph. lol. Really I know with time it will come but atm I can't see a buck whatever but I'm learning and gaining confidence each time just my second time on a bike my whole life :)
 
I didnt go particularly fast today. However, I did keep my bikes rpm's up pretty high. I was cruising in 3rd gear at 9k rpm doing about 70. For the most part on the highway I kept my bike between 9k and 10.5k rpm cruising. It was nice having a hand full of acceleration when you want it instantly. I really love the sound of the stock exhaust when its 9-10k ish, just a pretty tone!!! I find that I dont have to go really fast to feel like a hooligan, just run tall in a low gear and it feels really bad. LOL, I found on high rpm running, for 30 minutes straight, my temp got up to 212 degrees F. Though that went down to 208 the next second.

That's what I thought while passing a cage in 2nd until I was banging off the rev limiter.

As much fun as it is to open it up it is good to read where some new riders respect the bike and their limitations. 'It will come in time little grasshopper'

I am sure most of us who explore the upper reaches of this or any bike have more than a few years of saddle time. Choose wisely where you decide to have a little fun. I prefer places where forest rats do not live such as open farm land or the desert. Dang, I live in the forest.
