Weird idle?

Hey all,

I sold my 2007 FZ6 but I am determined to help the guy figure out this weird problem.

I let the bike sit with about 2 gallons of gas for a few months. When started it runs fine, normal idle, she runs great no odd noises. The weird part is when you walk it while in neutral/holding clutch in. The tach bounces down and up.

The guy rode it home and said it went away. I was figuring it may just need to be run for a little bit. If that did not end up fixing it does anyone have any ideas?

Definitely start by going through this tank (or draining the tank).

If it still has issues with fresh gas and after fuel treatment, I'd sync throttle bodies (how many miles on the bike and has TB sync ever been done?)

No throttle body sync has been done. The bike currently has 10400 miles on her.

I told him to put some stabilizer in until spring and then run some cleaner through (seafoam). Is this okay advice?

A good, heavy dose of Seafoam won't hurt anything and can only help, keep the tank FULL for storage.

As noted above by Eric, if there's water in the system, K100 (which I've been using in my boat for about two years, 50 gallon tank, 1997) works extremly well at encapsulating and water and it will eventually burn off. Its also a fuel stabilizer as well.

I just prdered a case and the newer product is said to keep fuel fresh for TWO YEARS. The previous bottle was for ONE year...

The bike probably just, as noted, needs a good dose and good, long, hard ride (preferably with fresh fuel) to blow the crap out of the engine.

I can say, on my 07, the bike idles smoother with the appropriate dose of Seafoam. I can see it on the tach and hear it (its purposly set at 1,000 RPM's). I tried running without it and there is definitly a difference. And my bike is run 365 days (Florida) almost every day..

How much does it bounces ? Like ~100RPMs or like 1000RPMs ? Mine is oscillating around 100-200RPMs almost all the time.

It jumps about 100rpm. But it's not oscillating it's like gurgling. It's hard to explain. And it's only when the tires are rolling.

100rpm up/down is not terrible. As stated above by everyone, just needs to be ridden to get the old stuff out of the system. TB Sync is a good idea too, to smooth out idle.
