Erci I need a new tire

Erci you've been such a big help to me,:rockon: and now I need a new rear tire. What do you suggest for me.:confused:

Now if you were to ask Humpy or Kazza or mave2911 or me we are all gonna say the Metzler Z8 great in the wet and loads of grip in the dry( so good for texas)

lots of people will give lots of advice - buy the best you can afford

My #1 question: ( you said you need a new REAR tire ) what's currently on the front? How old is it? If you're positive it does not need to be replaced yet (new enough and plenty of tread left), I would consider replacing the rear with the same model as the front.

It is possible to compensate for mismatched tires and will likely happen subconsciously, but I would rather have a set on my bike meant to work together to provide best possible riding characteristics.

Matching set aside, from my personal experience I love Michelin Pilot Road 2ct. While I'm still pissed at Michelin for the way they handled Pilot Road 3 issue (almost certainly released a bad batch early on and took no responsibility for riders who've had those tires disintegrate, causing crashes), I have to admit Pilot Road 2's are very very good. Great grip in dry and wet and very long tread life.

I don't have personal experience with Metzler Z8's, but besides hearing lots of praise from forum members, I remember reading a review where they actually compared a bunch of sport touring tires (including PR2 and Z8) on the same bike, on the track, in mixed conditions and Z8 produced best lap times.

I do think Z8 is a bit more expensive than PR2.

IF you decide to go with PR2 and choose to order it online, I would call before placing an order and ask how old the tire actually was. Ask if they can read you the 4-digit number on the sidewall. First 2 digits mean week and last 2 mean year. So 0411, for example, means 4th week of 2011. These have been around for a long time and they are probably becoming obsolete since Michelin is now selling PR3.

So those 2 would be my top choices. There ARE lots of other good options out there as well (BT-023, Shinko 009, etc).

See I knew you would be a big help. :D I'm going to get a set now, and not just the rear. :BLAA: If I can't get a fresh set of PR2s, then it will be a set of Z8s.:rockon:

The last time my bike needed shoes I got a matched pair of Maxxis Diamonds.

I wasn't sure about them when I bought them but after using them for the last 3 months I couldnt reccomend them higher.

I live in Scotland so our weather is as unpredictable as it gets. I've never had as much confidence riding in the cold and wet. Even at 3C they still warm up and give awesome grip the same in the wet. We've had proper torrential weather and there was not a hint of slipping and sliding.

Haha, just my two pence :P

Online price for the set shipped is ~ 285, so it's like you're getting install for $65, which is very fair. Yes.. good deal :thumbup:

Yea $350 otd for a fresh set. He said he would match price. Where did you get the $285?
 
Yup, just paid $285 shipped for a set of PR2s about a moth ago from the superstore and installed them myself. $350 installed sounds like a good deal but id still rather do it myself..
