Buy Both Tires at Same Time?

I have just joined this forum and am finding it quite helpful, I recently bought my 08 FZ6 (used) and found that the tread on the rear tire is fine, while there is only a small amount of tread left on the front tire, would it be okay to buy a new front tire without buying a new rear tire? Or would this be a bad idea to have different tires wearing down at different tread levels?

So long as your back tire IS ok and not old and dry-rotting, you should be fine just changing the front tire. I have not heard of any issues with it.

I think you will find most people blow through rears much faster than fronts, and will replace the rear only more often than replacing both front/rear (likely what happened in your case - the rear was swapped but the front was still fine). I wouldn't recommend mixing and matching tires, though, so get a matching front to your rear, and replace both if a change in tire brand/type is what you need. Of course there are so many options for type/style/compound to choose from you're going to have to decide if what you have in the back is what you really want/need and then go from there. Good luck.

Supposedly mc tires are made to work with each other. The manufacturer designs the front tread to work in conjunction with the rear tread. Mixing and matching tires may cause improper water dispersion. Most places (online) offer discounts for buying in pairs anyways. If you absolutely never ride in wet road conditions then mix and match all day as long as the old tire is in good condition as described above. I'd say buy the pair..better safe than sorry. Rain also never deterred me :thumbup:

My tires were shot but I bought one in the fall when I pu it in storage and bought the rear in the spring. It was an easier hit on the wallet.
