How much did you $spend on your fz6? $7200

OTD: 7000 for a brand spankin' 09 in spring of '11 in Nashvegas TN

they had deals on the fz6r which is a newer model and my dad and i have bought many bikes from said manager whom we also ride with often and he gave us a sweet dealio

09 with 3300 miles for $3800, not too bad since I didn't really feel like looking too hard and Indiana is not the state to buy a standard it seems.

Picked up a showroom mint 07 with 1k miles on the odo for 4k. Others in the area with close to 10 k miles were only going for 3500 and I felt the extra 500 for the lower mileage one was worth it.

I picked up my 06' FZ6 while deployed here to Afghanistan. 10,000miles for $2600, new tires, new chain, fresh service, gel battery, and much more. The bike is immaculate, and I cant waite to get home to enjoy it !!!

well Im glad I didnt pull the trigger before looking at this site

I have been looking for a cool naked bike for some time to replace my drz400 as a commuter bike. my commute is like 100+ miles a day and the drz is backbreaking for that kinda distance.

I really like the old zrx1200 bikes but cant seem to find any good deals so ive opened up my "acceptable" list and the fz seems like a really cool bike. basically a R6 but naked with different power delivery.

so I found one local for 3k, its an 06 (but theres no year model sticker anywhere) with 15k on the clock..

I met with the guy to look at the bike and it's had quite a life - 3 POs one of which was a "stunta" cause they took off the passenger pegs and had wheelie pegs welded to the subframe. frame sliders were added and on the left side the slider was definitely used in a get down. the left handlebar weight and stator cover were also marred from that one.

it does have scorpion exhaust with power commander, as well as some other farkles like SS brake lines, flushmount blinkers, fender eliminator, etc.

but now I come here and see most bikes are bought newer for less with no mods, and personally I dont think ill need all that superfast stuff.

so thanks for the forum, I'm back on the hunt.. that is, unless the collective thinks the mods actually make that price doable... I know the PC is about 3 bills, the brand new pilot powers are worth a few more, and the exhaust is worth a bit too... but the thing that worries me about this bike is the idle is all over the place, it doesnt idle at one smooth rpm. it fluctuates from 1000-1400 and is the main reason I didnt just go ahead with it. that and the clutch probably needs a new cable - it was reeealy stiff and when released, the lever didnt go all the way forwards.

Where the Scorpions without the dB-killers?
If so, the idle will be loping. This can easily be sorted by doing a TB (throttle body) sync.
The clutch of an FZ6 is rather stiff, but if you really want to be 100% sure, just replace it :) (it won't cost you that much :))

To be honest that's not too far off , offer them 2,500 and see where it goes, but 15,000 miles is nothing for these bikes and on the 06 the passenger pegs are welded on

well he said he was firm on the price, didnt want to sell just needs the cash.

thats good to know the pegs were welded stock, however these are definitely not stock. they dont fold theyre just steel rods welded to an A frame which is welded to the subframe. not a deal breaker but worth mention.

degake,
the db killers are probably not in the cans, this guy was a harley rider so im sure he didnt install them. it certainly was loud when he revved it, but damn did it sound good. just the unsteady idle is what bothered me, but if thats a easily corrected problem (and you guys here on fz6-forum dont mind walking me through) I still may contact the guy again..

Idle can be erratic due to many reasons. One of them is TBs are out of sync but highly unlikely, a bad TPS, or finally -ve values in the pc3 map at 0% throttle.

Still wouldnt hurt to ask 2500 all he can do is say no, explain your concerns and he might be willing to negotiate if he really needs to money

Use this argument to get a lower price.
If you really don't like the pegs as they are, just buy a subframe on eBay or so. They won't go that much money :)

You will get help with any problem, mod or other question you have on this forum  We're all a big family :D

As said by CrazyBiker, these are the main concerns with an irratic idle, but they are all easy to fix :)
