Im sure by now all of us have come to realize that there are just some traffic lights that our bikes wont trigger. So i have read and talked to people who have tried these magnets and gotten mixed reviews, some claim they work great and others say they dont do anything. Also some of them have actually bought the specific traffic light magnets while others have just tried magnets. I looked at some of the kits and from what it seems like they are just neo-whatever magnets coated in epoxy. I found a site that only deals in magnets and thats all they do and bought 150 n52 neo-whatever magnets. They are real small about the size of Lincolns head on a penny and the same thickness of a penny as well. But supposedly these n52's are about twice as strong as other magnets. I bought 150 of them for one they were dirt cheep $1 for a pack of 10, thinking i could place them all over the under side of my bike and just see if it works. Has anyone else tried any magnets for traffic lights, experiences?

Never liked this idea. First of all, I have heard mixed reviews which immediately turns me off. Second of all, I dont need magnets under my bike attracting all sorts of foreign metals to it.

I find that when I am in one of those situations where my bike is not triggering the traffic light, i roll the bike forward and back over the lines in the road where the mechanism is. That very often works, and if not, I pull forward enough for a car behind me to trigger it. Worse comes to worst, you gotta blow the light...

I've read the same thing about magnets & doubt it would make a difference. There is a set of lights around the corner from work that wont trip for me of a night when im riding home so I find its easier to step off the bike & run over hit the pedestrian crossing button :D that always makes the lights change

Ya ive done that quite a few times lol. The way i see it is they were dirt cheep to buy a crazy amount of them, and it cant hurt anything to try it so ill give it a go once they are delivered and see what happens. If they dont work then im only out $15 wich i think would be worth a try

And if your feeling a bit lazy, and there is no red light camera....have a real good look around, then quietly move off....a ploy i have used more than once in my life, but only works when roads are deserted...most of the time, i just wait till a car comes, and does the deed for me..., even if i have to move forward a little further than i should, to get them to rest on the pad thingo's..

There is actually a law on the books right now where i live that is trying to get passed that says if a motorcycle sits through 2 lights and it still hasnt turned on the 3rd they can treat it like a stop sign. That would be cool if it passed

I looked into this extensively because the light right out of my work lot has one of those damn sensors. The things (ie. magic fixes) you can buy online are LITERALLY magnets in a plastic case.

I bought 2 pretty large magnets on eBay (1" x 2") and put them on the bottom of the center stand... thought it worked, then didn't, then did... in summary I don't think it did in MY case... other lights might be more sensitive.

If you wanna try, spend a few dollars and worst case, you have 1 or 2 very strong fridge magnets :).

I'm pretty sure if the bike doesn't have the metal mass to trigger the light it won't trigger the camera....

if there's a light that constantly doesn't trigger, then you can phoen the council or whoever is responsible for maintaining the roads and ask them to increase the sensitivity

i've never really had a problem, i always make sure i ride over the centre of the induction loops

wonder if they still work if you have a set of carbon or alloy wheels... :D

also i think sticking magnets on your bike wouldn't do much, as they'd be too far away, and the field lines would be drawn to whatever they are stuck to (though you could try sticking some to your boots)

Bikes will trigger the camera... I know from experience. I dont think (at least not in NY) its weight, its an object that moves past the white strip on the crossing that tigers it.

I've heard some people have success just putting their side stand down, which triggers the lights....not sure if it always works though.

I don't expect the magnets to work, but you never know. I will say it's always best to get your motor centered right over one of the lines.

I had one light that was giving me trouble almost daily on my ride to work. One day I finaly got around to calling the police dept. to report it and 2-3 days later it was corrected and it has never failed to trigger since.

Sticking a bunch of magnets under your bike isn't likely to work, and depending where you put them neodinium magnets lose their strength with high heat, like that coming off your engine. You don't want magnets being flung off your machine at speed as they move around and drop off.

Ive herd conflicting reports on wether they work or not but i dont actually plan on sticking them to anything especially any moving parts. I was thinking about taping some to.the inside of my belly pan on both sides, since that is the closest to.the ground as well as maybe glueing some inside the sole of my boots

We actually have a law similar to that in NC, but here you have to sit at the light for 3 minuetes before you can "run" it. It is under § 20‑158.

I think it totally depends on the intersection. I have never had issues in WA state, but when in I was living in CA, some intersections would never trigger. I was riding my Ninja 250 and it would not trigger some lights. BUT, in the same intersections, on my wife's Ninja 250 which had one of those magnets on the center stand, it would always trigger the lights that were previously problematic.
Your mileage will vary.
