So this morning i was approached at the gas station while getting off my bike by a guy who claimed to own a gsxr1000, i had all my new gear on and as i was taking my gloves off he steped around the gas pump with a smerk on his face and asked you got enough gear on? I said sure do- him, is all that really necessary? Or are you just trying to look cool? Me-necessary no but unless you own a bike or have wrecked one wich i have i wouldnt expect you to understand. Him- i do have a bike i got a gsxr1000 what kind of bike is that (in a sarcastic tone) me- its a yamaha fz6 and let me guess your one of those guys who ride around in shorts and a short sleeve shirt and only pull your bike out of the garage when the weather is perfect. Him- na im a REAL rider not a poser so i dont worry about wearing all that gear and wont ride in the rain because thats just stupid. Me- well alright then you have a good day and enjoy that gsxr you have at home.

Its people like him that i cant stand, the attiude that he is better then me because he has a gsxr. Congrats, if he actually has one because all i saw was a beat up toyota pickup. Wether anyone chooses to ride with or without gear is there own choice and i really could care less but how some people consider themselves to be "real bikers" when they only pull there bike out when its 80° and sunny makes me laugh, and the fact that he thought i was just trying to look cool...i honestly could care less what someone i have never met thinks about me, its the frame of mind they think in that gets me, but how is wearing gear and riding in not perfect conditions a poser? Most people ive met or talked to while on the bike are all the same all that matters is the fact that you are out there riding and being safe while doing it, wether it be harleys, dual sports, tourers, sport bikes, or standards and thats the way i am about it, at least your out there riding and if you do ride all year (such as myself) then more power to you! I just dont get how anyone can think that someone who dose ride all the time is crazy especially coming from a squid who doubtfully owns a bike to begin with. Anyways im sorry if ive offended anyone in any way but thats just how i feel....

End rant

What a goob. Don't sweat it man, they are in the minority from my experience. Most people I've talked to are really cool, never had anyone come at me with attitude like that before.

i spent a bit more on some of my biking gear to look cool, as well as to it offering good protection, does that mean i'm not a biker :D

To some image is everything. Don't talk about bikes and being cool then rag on someone without the goods to back it up (didn't have a bike). Poseur. I would have told him nicely that there's a bike night at __________ every week and he should go. Then told him I'm pressed for time and have to leave.

The thing is to wear as much black as possible for most bikers. I bought a jacket that has red in it for visibility (and it fit right) though I could've gotten black. Since I don't wear all black gear for some I'm not cool. I didn't get a Harley because I didn't want to have to buy all the Harley associated gear to fit in. Bikers are a very particular crowd. I hang with folks that don't care what you ride or criticize what you wear. I do criticize folks for what they DON'T wear, i.e. helmet, jacket and gloves at the least. I can understand it's Texas (where I live) and it's been so freakin' hot but I still wear the stuff. Oh well.

Like everything all bikers have there definition of a "Real Biker". Some people believe you need a V twin others think at least 1000cc while some think you need a loud pipe. Sometimes you're not "Hardcore" if you don't stunt or race or crash. Also things like not riding every day or in the rain, even too hot or cold to ride means your not a real biker. Even simple things like wearing a HJC helmet can mean you're not serious enough.

I know everyone has a opinion and most will never change their views. As long as you enjoy what you do doesn't matter what others think and not worth worrying about. Definitely not worth changing your views to impress others. Also you shouldn't impose your views on others, it's only fair... even if you're right ;)

World is fed by all kinds. . . Some make better choices than others. . .
On the freeway ride home last night I saw two things. Bother were disturbing in there own way.

- in the median was a bashed up sport bike with a guy leaned against the divider but sitting up right with his helmet on and paramedics around him. Not sure of his outcome. Bike was trashed, turned around backwards to flow and also leaning against the freeway divider. Oh - all this was in a construction zone detour around a bridge and just before the signs indicating "no lane changes". I suspect a cager did a lane change over his space and took him out. . .

- 2nd imagine -
which was seconds after we both passed the down biker; a guy on an R1, with helmet, tank top, no gloves, shorts, and open toed sandals. I looked him up and down as we crawled along pointed at his feet, pointed at my feet. Then I tapped my helmet in disgust. he flipped his elbow up and sped off.

I can't imagine riding my bicycle in open toed shoes let alone a street bike. Some people will learn the hard way I guess. . . (ref 2nd imagine)

Wow, that guy was a real jack-hole.. Props to you for keeping your cool about it.

We have a couple guys about 2 blocks away from my house that all have "gixxxer" 600's and modded them out. They ride with the helmets just sitting on top of their heads and in shorts, t-shirts, and sometimes sandals with socks. I get laughs, smirks, head-shakes, and all kinds of crap when I ride by them. But the way I see it, I like keeping them in good spirits because that will help them with their recovery when they are in the hospital! :BLAA:

there was somebody on another forum, they let their friend try out their bike (an fzr400 i think), she managed to lose control from the drive way and smash into a lamppost. One of her toes was almost severed off, and she was wearing trainers (sneakers)!

The funniest thing to me is that there are SO few people in the world who can make use of all the capabilities of a liter bike, and yet tons of people have them to increase the size of their "mental *****" or ego or whatever you want to call it.

I've never had anybody approach me like that; I sure hope I never do.

I can't believe he asked you if you wore gear to look cool and called you a poser when you were the one riding and he was the one with an alleged bike at home collecting dust.

To these kinds of people I generally say something like, "Oh I can tell that you're such a great rider that you won't ever crash" and then ride off. :)

I do enjoy seeing the guys in the turtle shell 1/2 helmet wearing an outfit that would be perfect for laying out at the beach: t-shirt (or not), shorts, flip-flops. Like someone else said, I won't even ride my *bicycle* with sandals, let alone a motorbike! Sheesh! What goes through people's minds?

Im telling you what....sometimes i have to just sit back and ask myself what were they thinking...but ive been thinking about it at work today the way he approached me like he knew me, since when he first opened his mouth i still had my helmet on maybe he was mistaken me for someone.he thought he knew....and once he was knee-deep with foot in mouth maybe he figured he would roll with the punches, but i dont know either way i cant help but to laugh at some of the things that people make up to try to make themselves feel better about themselves
