Going out of my skull with boredom sitting here,I've been looking on E bay,at fake carbon trim.
I know a mate with a Blade,that's covered in it.Swingarm,clock faces,controls,petrol cap,you name it

Personally,I can't stand the stuff as it rarely looks anything like the colour or weave of real carbon,but I understand that if your on a budget,carbon goodies aint cheap, but it rates on my desirability list about as highly as light up dust caps :rolleyes:

what are your views?

Big NO to fake carbon.

Wait until you can afford it or just go black or something like that.

Nothing worse than seeing fake CF bar ends or anything else curved and the print pattern of the fake CF is off.

Sorry, not my go........ :(

It would have to be an EXCEPTIONALLY good fake for me to change my mind.

I don't like fake carbon. On the other side of that coin... I don't like 'excessive' carbon. Track bike? I can appreciate carbon fiber brake rotor carriers, but not on a street bike.

Hospital tomorrow,Kids are trying to drive me insane (School holidays :() Bikes sitting there gathering dust,not sleeping (its 2.30 am here),lost my appetite And the dog is breaking my balls

Real CF is definitely the "only" wy to go, but good fake CF sheeting, can help those who have lots of real CF on their bike, to put accents on it, that compliment the real stuff,. but only if the fke CF film is decent quality, and realistic in it's finish....and you cannot get the item you want in CF, which is quite often the case.

The parts you get that are just wrapped in that CF finish that they attain by dipping the pats in some sort of bath....that stuff is just awful...looks worse than fake...

On the other hand, i know have a bit of Fake CF sheeting on the top of my seat cowl, where i always seem to foul the top of the cowl when i put my leg over the bike....the CF sheeting is there to stop the paint on the cowl getting scratched....much like a tank pad....it took me a few months to find a CF look sheet that when applied sorta ,matched my genuine CF tank protector.

But this is there for function more than anything...So if you have to, you can find half decent fake CF sheet, but you know what, it costs nearly as much as the real thing these days...to get a "good" fake CF sheet.

I say real or none. If you're on a budget and want carbon fiber bits make your own. I thought about making some engine covers since mine are scuffed but it would look strange on my silver engine/frame.
 
How about an option for NO CF period...... I know im in the minority here but i HATE the look of carbon fibre :eek: :eek: Dont get me wrong , its a great material but in the raw it looks awful IMO :scared:
 
if you cant afford it just dont do it. i dont like the look of fake carbon. its better to leave the bike as it is it surely looks better. i appreciate what wolf did to give it a function not to scratch the bike and to somehow match his carbon accents that yes i agree with.

i like real carbonfibre on small items just to give a bit of accent and thats it.

Im with you on this one bud, Yes it is an awesome material when laminated and used correctly, but just draping bits of raw CF here and there for cosmetic effect doesnt float my boat, but each to their own.

I had a carbon heat shield on the hardtail I built a couple of years ago, but I painted it black, same with the bonnet (hood) on a civic type R I helped build, that got painted white...

It's all down to individual taste at the end of the day :thumbup:
 
Yes its expensive, but you can buy 'real-I-am' carbon cloth from places like carbonology.com and with a little patience and a steady nerve, follow Alkinoos's lead and create your own real carbon covers.

If anyone has ever used fibre-glass kits before, carbon is a lot easier to work with as it doesnt tend to fray like the glass matting does.

Home made covers it must be said, do not have the same strength as a vacuum formed part, but it will stll provide abbrasion resistance due to the carbon/grp-resin mix.

After the debacle that was me trying to buy a real CF hugger from Portugal....it never arrived! I have decided to have a go at doing my own CF bits and pieces, and i am going to try and use the vacuum formed method of CF fabrication....should be a bit of fun at the very least, at the very best, i will have some nice "one off" bits for my bikes.

I agree. If used for a real purpose then it is awesome stuff. But if it is just for decoration, kind of played out.
