staying on throttle when shifting?

Quick question here from a rookiea . If you do the clutchless shifting (what is the reason of having a clutch at all :spank:. Second question would that affect the bike at all over the long run? thanks riders in advance:thumbup:

If you constantly do it wrong you can damage the shift drum or more likely bend a shift fork. Remember that most race bikes are using slipper clutches. In a nutshell the clutch transfers power from the engines crankshaft to the rear wheels via the front sprocket. Anytime you disengage/reengage the clutch you create friction and heat. As you shorten the time/need to make the shift you reduce the wear and tear on the clutch and increase the efficiency and smooth out that power transfer to the rear wheels. A clutch is a necessary component of that power transfer, because at some point (unfortunately) we need to stop our bike, so we must have a way to decouple the engine from the transmission and rear wheel.

i do clutchless down shifting when late braking, where the the time to decide to reach for the clutch, pull it, downshift would mean id probably blow the turn

I have been racing MX dirtbikes most of my life and know that in the dirt, the clutch is rarely used when downshifting. Now that I am on the street, sometimes I do not use it to downshift also. Upshifting with no clutch is surprisingly smooth on the FZ6. I mostly just dab the clutch to help it into the next gear with a coordinated throttle. What is tricky for me on the FZ6 is rolling on the gas after braking into the turn. The bike will lunge if you do not get the clutch/throttle just right. When leaned over, that lunge makes me yell Oh Sh...Tightening the chain helps but hopefully it will completely go away when I have the TPS recall done next week. Just bought the bike with only 500 miles on a 2005.
