Master link tool

Hey Guys,

This is the tool used to press the plates on a master link together. This will not rivet you link, but it will press the plate on. $7 shipped in the US.

I don't know too much about chains, but know I'll be needing this tool sometime in the future. So I'm interested, but have a question. When you say "rivet your link" what would that mean? What tool would do that? I'm assuming both tools are needed to remove and put a chain back on.

There are two types of master links. Rivet and the ones that have a clip. They both require you to press the plates on, but the non rivet chain has a clip that you can clip on with a pair of needle nose pliers. A rivet link will require a chain rivet tool. Do a google search and "rived master link" and "clip master link" and you'll probably get a lot more info than I can explain.

FWIW, I found I could spread the pins' ends to retain the plate with a small ball peen hammer, and another much larger hammer held against the back side of the pin to act as an anvil.... Doesn't take all that many sharp raps with the little hammer to mush out the end of the pin....:thumbup:

That's kind of how I did my first chain. I have since bought the motion pro complete chain set and it rocks!
