I have an issue with my head light. If I turn the light switch to high beam both are working fine. If I have it on low beam the left light works but the right does not. I went and bought a light and changed the bulb on the right . Same thing. One more thing. The right has 3 prongs in the back of the light hile the left has 2 prongs. Any advice will be helpful. I am new to this. it is an FZ6 2007. Thanks again.

Hey there Proline. I'm happy to tell you.. there is nothing wrong with your FZ6. It's wired that way from the factory. Single low beam, and dual high beam. Well, technically I think the 'left' bulb is always on Low even when you switch to high beam, but thats another topic.

You can check out some of the threads in the "How to" and "Mod" sections if you feel like that is something you want to fix.

Ooh yeah~ first post!

The first night when I bought my 07 fz6, I found this "problem",,almost called the guy. then I did google,,,it took me here- A great place to learn.

After I got my bike I must have had at least a dozen people tell me I had a light burnt out. I was flagged down by a very nice but senile old couple on the road who told me I had a light burnt out.

Found this forum, and the details on how to have two lights all the time. The first few people telling me I had a light out was amusing, after that just a little annoying.

why Yamaha has this this way? why will you have one light and the 2nd off? Is it OK to drive like that at night or you have to have it on high beam?

By the way this website is priceless for a newbie??

They wired it that way because it is easier for someone driving a car to recognize you as a motorcycle, if you have only one light. If you have two lights, they might mistake you for a car futher away than you really are. The high beam is there for situations in which you need more visibility.

Having said that, many people here still prefer to do a headlight mod, since it increases that chance that another driver will see you at all; and it's more appealing, and people will stop telling you that your headlight is out.
