I just got my 05 fz6 a few weeks ago and I was just wondering what would happen first on this bike. Would the pegs drag or would the tires reach the lean limit and lose traction? And is there any risk of the center stand scraping?

The pegs WILL drag before your tires reach their max lean angle. I can't attest to the center stand dragging, but I know that for the higher levels of track days you must remove the center stand. Then again it all depends on what tires you are using and whether you are using synthetic or dino oil :)

My instructor on my MSF class told me not to worry about leaning because my bike will lean farther than my brain will allow. All I can say is that my brain is a bit of a coward.

I've witnessed the pegs dragging on this bike long before the tires reach anywhere near their limits. Never seen a center stand hit though. That would be balls!

Your pegs first as everyone says, but then probably your body 2nd, tyres 3rd! Ie you'd be scraping your knee most likely.

If you haven't already done a track day, I suggest doing one. Being able to go around the same corner again and again and again, you can gradually lean it more and discover just how far bikes can lean over. You'll be amazed. Then back on the street you'll have much more confidence because you won't be riding anywhere near the same level.

Yep, do what Ridgeback said...take a wrench and remove those little feelers that hang off the underside of each peg. They just unscrew (although you might have to turn hard since they're usually locked in with Loctite.)

Those things are a lever waiting to happen (and not a good lever.) I know one FZ6 rider who leaned hard into a corner, touched down one of the peg feelers, and levered his rear wheel right off the ground. Not pretty.

you will drag pegs and be going slower than someone with proper cornering form. get instruction at a track. wont cost too much for one day. it will open your eyes.

peg dragging is for rookies. you leave yourself NO extra lean angle as you are using it all just about, and you arent even going that quickly thru the corner.

go to a track day and get instruction.

now.

Also keep in mind that in a turn, as the bike is leaning, you are compressing the suspension in variation to speed, body position, your weight and preset on the rear spring. I took off my center stand and was eating the stock pegs without the hero blobs. Then I got some custom pegs and was eating the side stand and modified the side stand and set the rear spring harder so as to get less compression. Worked pretty good for me so that I was getting around turns a lot faster. Never ran out of tire!

Im curious...... You say you have an 05 Naked yet it has a centre stand .... Only the faired version has a centre stand, here in Oz anyways.....

He's here in the US where we don't get a true naked FZ. The previous owner or current owner probably did a conversion on a Faired FZ to naked, thus retaining the center stand.
