Someday I will walk into a dealer, negotiate my best price, and walk away happy knowing I bought a high quality machine.
People sometimes forget about the negotiation. They go in to a dealer to buy a bike, when they should be going into a dealer to negotiate. There is always a couple/few thousand bucks that either the dealer makes from you, or you save on the purchase. The bike is the distraction that keeps the extra money in the dealer's pocket instead of yours. If a dealer has enough time invested in you, and you are clear that you want to buy a bike, the dealer won't let you walk out the door. That's a blown sale. So his distraction for you is the bike. What's your distraction for him? Patience and a wad of cash. Bringing in a cash amount (if you can) that is less than MSRP, but what you want to pay for the purchase. i.e. $8000 in cash for a bike with a $10000 MSRP. A cash transaction means less paperwork, no banks, no laons, no credit checks, etc. It's a one-and-done sale. Hopefully the salesperson bites. This scenerio isn't fool-proof, but treating the whole thing like a pyschological game will keep you focused on wearing the salesperson down instead of buying a new bike.
