Help a Noob Thread

Hey guys,

I've had my 08 FZ6 since last season but I've done nothing to mod it (been busy modding my car)...

Time to ride again and i'm really feeling my bike way to stock-ish (shocker, its bone stock)...

so I thought of a few things I'd like to change, exhaust, intake/filter, headlights, get rid of the garbage looking stock plate and blinker assembly whatever its called....

so some questions for you:

1- Exhaust: I think I like the 2 brothers exhaust;
- do I need a engine management upgrade or no?
- what are the benefits of getting one?
- Which version should I get (i guess there's cf, titanium...)?
- Wheres the best place to shop for one and should i consider used exhausts?

2- Intake/Filter: this I have no knowledge about but I'm assuming there's a way to make the bike breathe better (i put a cold air intake on my car, whats the equivalent here if any).

3- Headlights: What do I need to make my headlights brighter, make both work at the same time...

4- The plate/blinker assembly thing: what is it called anyway and does the aftermarket exhaust eliminate it or do i need to buy something anyway, and while we're on lights, can i get the front ones to become flush too?


Any and all comments will be appreciated. I apologize for my ignorance in advance! Any advice will be considered if you think I'm going about things the wrong way.

Finally, please make suggestions for sites I can purchase from for good prices.

I can't help you much with performance mods, but I'd get some sliders first and get a BD43 wiring harness to power both headlights at low-beam. Then maybe a belly pan and clean up the rear end (fender eliminator) and put some flushmount turnsignals on it. An aftermarket exhaust won't do much for performance, but it will do a LOT for the sound :thumbup:

My FZ6 is on the other end of the spectrum. It's beginning to look like a mule with all the crap I'm adding to it (I'm converting it to a touring rig). All function over form.

Gotta love these bikes. They can do pretty much anything.

I got frame sliders when I bought the bike (although i have serious doubts as to their true effectiveness ). I'm still considering my options in regards to the headlight mod...

Since I really like the 2bros, it comes with a fender eliminator kit. LOVE THE SOUND!!

I'm not a fan of bags lol but you're right the best thing about this bike is that you can customize it to your liking.

eh I'd tend to disagree on that point because I have an 07 california model and putting on the two bros system w/ cat eliminator pipe and power commander with a modest map took me from getting smoked by my buddy's stock cbr600rr to staying neck and neck until about 110, keeping in mind I have about 100 lbs on the other rider....thats a pretty substantial power difference! I will agree that just slip ons alone won't make or break the power difference, but I think as a system they add ALOT!

That sounds like a decent price to me for CF TB cans. When I did mine a year ago, the cheapest place was imotorcyclestore.com @ $950.00 CAD shipped.

I found decently priced PCIII's on eBay, but from the searching I did, most places all sell for around the same price. Dynojet seems to keep their resellers in-line with consistant product pricing.

you have to load the map which best fits the changes you've made....if you have the extra coin it could be worth getting it dynoed but I would just run the map that most closely reflects what you've modified....or at least that's what I've done.

That's because there isn't one for "FZ6 with Two Brothers". Don't ask me how this could be and FZ6's with TB cans are pretty damn common. I have read that you can use the Scoprions map instead (as told by a Dynojet Support guy).

In reality, the BEST way to make use of and maximize your PCIII, you need to install it and take your bike to someone with a dyno and has the ability to tune it on the dyno. You are not getting the full potential out of either your bike or your PCIII if you don't get they dyno tuning done. This is the reason I'm holding off on getting a PCIII - no local shop with a dyno.

I haven't ordered the PCIII yet and to be honest, I'm not sure I will. My buddy (bike pro) told me that it will improve my bike's performance but I don't absolutely need it. With that said, glad to know Boneman you're running the cans without PCIII. Bike shops tend to make it sound like the bike will run like crap without the PCIII.

Boneman, your site's awesome. Once I get the cans (tomorrow) I will try to visualize the FE Kit on the bike and might end up trying to duplicate some of your work. One question; how did you paint some parts flat black? rattle can?

meanwhile i'll start researching dyno places and see what the costs are gonna be

Oh Also: that channeled rubber you used, has it melted yet if not, what section/dept did you find it at at the hardware store

yup, rattle can primer and paint.

The rubber is doing fine and hasen't melted. I "acquired" it from my former employer, so I don't have any specs on it sorry.
