WTF Harley Riders?

First off this is my first thread on this website, so hello.

I am interesting in your opinions as to why Harley riders seem to be pricks. I should in all fairness preface this. The weather in Ohio is crappy almost all the time, the times that it is nice there are tons of bikers out. I've been noticing a trend in acknowledgments from my biker brethren. That is Harley riders are pricks, not all of them just the ones that look as though they are riding a giant windshield rather than a motorcycle. They never seem to return a waive or a head nod. It irritates the crap out of me. I know this is similar to the police officer nod back thread, but those people are working, so it doesn't offend me if they do or don't. But WTF is the deal with the giant windshield riders? Does anyone else have this issue?

On an unrelated note... do you think that in the winter months they take off those giant windshield and go sledding with them?

I have the same mixed feelings for Hardley riders I really don't get it they are'nt in anyway different from us other than their bikes vibrate like crap and cost to damn much . but I get some intresting looks from harley people when I'm on my Ducati only because it sounds better and is sometimes louder than they are!

I treat everyone the same and let them get the first wave in,otherwise you feel such a pratt waving and not getting even a nod in return, and that's not just the Harley riders.
We have a real mix of bikes in the Fire Hall and we all nod or wave no matter what to each and everyone but as I say on my own out there they get the Ashbone treatment :Flip: until I get something in return.

Don't let it make you mad. I never wave to them unless they wave first(very rare occasion) I am always polite and return waves but I am not going to be a fool and wave to them to get no acknowledgement.

Hmm, never picked up on the anti-big-windscreen HD vibe before, although the bad vibe toward HD in general is alive and well. What I've seen is that the big screeners tend to be your well manicured rich lawyer type that want something comfortable to cruise around on. That type doesn't bother me. It's the guys wearing leather vests as their exclusive protective gear and Kaiser-esque helmets with tats all over with ape hangars are the ones that make me a little nervous. They look like they are on their way to an Aryan Nation meeting to plan the next domestic terrorist activity.

Harley riders are not considered bikers. they only care about their tassels, their shiny nickel parts, and straight lines of road with no turns, they also usually wear no, or little protective equipment, think that the higher their steering wheel is, the cooler they are, and they ride relics of an age gone and forgotten.

My suggestion, take the high road, that Harley rider with the silly chrome and tassels may have an R1 in their garage, probably not but you never know.

I wave at the majority of riders I see and most wave back. If someone doesn't I don't take it to heart. Sometimes I can't because I'm shifting, turning, stopping, flipping off a cage, etc.

Recently I purchased a Buell, along with several other members of the board here, and as a result I've met several Harley owners as a result of having to got to the HD shop for service. Most don't even acknowledge my existence and I really don't give a rat's behind. I think the are just freaked out to see a sportbike rider at an HD shop.

They do not wave back because they can't. The way that bucket vibrates, if they were to try to take a hand off to wave, they would loose control. Just like drivers ed in school....both hands on the wheel or in the case bars at all times.

Personally, I wave to everyone. Usually first. If they do not want to respond, they cannot say that I did not put my best foot forward or in this case hand. If they do not wave back, I just smile and keep going. A lot of times when it is just one HD, they will wave back, but when you get a group of them together, they forget how. Too Cool for me I guess. Oh well, I will not loose sleep over it.

Back in the day when the Ford Model T was just rolling off the assembly line, I bet every person who drove one of those marvels on wheels waved to each other. Today....do we wave to other auto drivers? uh no.
One day bikes will be plentiful and you're going to give up on waving as well.

I personally get tired of waving to everyone.....I don't know them, and so what if they ride a bike? big deal. so do alot of people.

Ride your ride, wave if you want to, don't worry about it if they don't wave back. there are bigger problems in this world.

I had a Jeep Wrangler, those people are wavers as well. Why in the hell do I keep buying vehicles that have social contracts!?! It's not like this ruins my day, I just feel like a tosser if I waive and there is no response.

One reason that I wave is to let the other rider know at least someone out there sees them, and when I receive a wave back it lets me know that I am seen.

Waving also breaks up the monotony. If you do not want to wave, then don't, but by you not waving, it is the same as the HD rider that does not wave. It is not just HD riders anyway. I get the same treatment from a lot of the Goldwing riders.

When I wave :cheer: (or give the finger) :Flip: to someone and they don't acknowledge it, I try to remember all the times I've caught some one at the very end of a wave and didn't wave back because I was maybe tuned into a vehicle or situation.

Sure there are people that won't wave back because you're not in their identity club but isn't that sort of what we're doing? I've waved to people on Jap bikes and they don't wave back. I wave to Harley riders and they wave back. I think it's the person. Why do I have to wave in the first place?

It really doesn't change my day because when I really get down to it, I just love the feeling of riding. I love hanging it into that turn! I love to ride! Even more than waving! If my biking days are over tomorrow. I still love to ride! If the Universe says you can't ride your FZ any more but you can ride that Harley I will gladly ride!

Don't let a wave or non wave have anything to do with your ride. We can learn a lot about ourselves from riding.....or knitting.... :rockon:

I agree with the above; there are times when others wave at me and i happen to be making a turn or just finished a headcheck to change lanes and i miss the opportunity to wave back. This is why most of the time, I'm the one initiating the wave. If they don't wave back, no problem. They may be afraid of letting go or think they're too cool or just didn't see me. Nothing personal in any case.

Having said that, I find 8 out of 10 HD riders wave back. Most don't wave first though, so if I initiate the wave first, it usually is enough to "soften" them up. Who knows, if they don't wave maybe they're too tired from shining up all that chrome...

I wave to all motorcycles, or at least give a head nod if it's not safe to wave. If they don't want to return my gesture, thats fine with me... I'm not going to lose any sleep over it.

I've found that sportbike and metric cruisers are the friendliest group of motorcycle riders around. Harley riders are a different breed for sure.

I wave to everybody on a bike even if they are on a Moped. IF they wave they wave if not I don't even think twice about it. I do find them waving more if my wife waves first. :don'tknow:
