2006 FZ6 wind buffeting problem

I am a short rider at 1,67m. I experience a lot of annoying wind buffiting from the screen. The airstream from the screen hit my helmet at chin level. Has anyone had a similar problem and solved it?

What windscreen are you using now? Stock?
Usually unless the windscreen is of a radical design, like a tall flipped forward screen, the wind is at most going to be directed to the highest point of the screen.

I have a slightly taller screen(puig double bubble), and at 6' in a normal riding position, the wind hits me in the chest.
Perhaps a taller screen that is closer to your head height would help.

I had the same problem and decided to go with the Cee-Baileys +5 windscreen. I like it a lot. No more buffeting of my head when I'm above 60mph. Highway cruising is no problem.

Yes I had the same problem on my 2006 and I solved it completely and it cost nothing.

For buffeting it rides better than the stock screen and the Puig double bubble...I have both.

It looks different and gets lots of comments. You can go the opposite way and make the screen higher and higher, but personally I think it takes the sporty look away from the FZ6.

You could try adding a small vent at the base of the windscreen, something like what the 07+ bikes have. It makes a major difference.

I had the same problem. Being a short rider, wind that would hit a taller rider in the chest hit me right in the face shield. I bought the taller Yamaha windscreen and it made a huge difference.

Folks....it says '2006' in the title of the original message. Cee Bailey's and CalSci aren't going to work (they only fit 2007+ models).

As others have said, if it's hitting your chin you could improve it with a taller windshield (I'm not sure what fits the '06s) or cutting it down. If you're planning some long rides go higher. If you ride only in good weather and mostly on the back roads you could cut it down.

I had the same problem with buffeting on my 06 so I installed the genuine Yamaha taller screen which I got from E Bay, it has made a noticeable difference but takes away from the styling slightly, I will get used to it but may take awhile.

I had terrible buffeting and living near the coast it seems it's always windy here which makes it worse. I recently replaced my stock with a Puig racing and it's gone.

I went to the Puig Racing DoubleBubble about 2 weeks ago. So far I like it and there is noticably reduced buffeting of my helmet. I especially notice the "clean air" when I do a head check when making a lane change on the freeway.

One interesting note, it is now nosier than when I had the cut down windscreen (ala steveindemarks mod)

My stock screen sent the wind right at my face when I am at speed but I bought the Yamaha taller screen and I am waiting for warmer weather to install it, because everything is lots harder when it's cold. I have high hopes this will help with the problem I will post pics and a review when I can test it properly.

I know you are taking the P%%s but you are totally correct.

All the guys with the nakeds say that they don`t have the problem of buffeting which made me realise that going with a taller screen is not the answer and a shorter screen is.

That is why I did my windscreen mod, which it appears nobody looked at.

Not a personal attack, but for shorter riders the wind turbulace IS excessive - to the point of causing hearing damage and excessive fatigue on longer trips - with hearing protection measures in use. Been there - Done that.

So far my only source of relief seems to agree with the shorter screen trick - although finding a screen with better shape to redirect the deviant air flow and still offer some protection would be nice...

I can accept you getting rider fatigue on long trips because of the buffetting but I cannot accept the ear damage claim unless you have made a really bad choice in ear buds and helmet.

I am only 5`9" tall and even with the stock screen it was not bad as I had good ear buds and helmet. It was even better when I changed from a flip helmet to full face.

I don`t think the screen you would like exists so I would cut your stock screen down like I did. It is free and easy and is much better.

I understand what you guys are going through, even though i am a little taller than most riders (6'1) i too get hit with wind and over a period of time it can wear on you. I cant go with a taller windscreen because it puts the wind at my neck and face. I did see a trick a friend of mine uses on his concourse. There is a custom shop in the houston area that can mold plastic and he took his stock windscreen to them and they didnt do anything with the height, but they made it wider. I got a chance to ride his bike a few weeks ago and it makes a big difference. You still feel the wind but it doesnt seem to jerk you from side to side like my stock windscreen does.

Like I said Larry, for riding the cut down screen is the best screen I have come across for riding but for looks the Puig DB is the best.

I use the Puig for everyday riding but for long runs I put the cut down screen back on.

Thanks a lot Steve. I did the mods this weekend and what a difference. Gone is the noize and buffeting from my sholders upward.
