Ok as a kid, I used to go fishing with other kids, no parents around. We all used to crimp the Lead fishing weights on with our teeth.
Did anybody else do that?

Also at about 7 I dropped and broke a mercury filled thermometer. I chased all the beads around and picked them up with fingers and thru them away, the ones I couldnt get got shooed up under the refridgerator at my grandmas house.
Did anybody else pick up mercury bare handed?

I know I am not the only one who has done stupid crap but I wonder how much effect did eating lead, and playing with mercury have to do with me being 3/4 crazy, and sometimes barely able to get along with normal people.

Yes to the sinkers.
Yes to the mercury (intentionally broke thermometers just to play with it).
Yes, I am also 3/4 crazy, and sometimes barely able to get along with normal people.

Remember the MAD HATTER? The guy with the top-hat at Alice's Tea Party?

There was a small tag with a percentage symbol in it. Whatever that percentage was; it represented the amount of mercury used in the dye that colored those kinds of hats. People used to wear them and any sweat (acid) caused the mercury in the hat to become absorbed into their brains. Hence, the MAD HATTER.

Doctors used to prescribe mercury as a remedy to cure constipation. People would purposely swallow a vial of mercury in order to force food bolus through their digestive system. Most of the mercury would pass through their system without a problem. After prolonged exposure however, people went mad.

It was thought to believe that silver was the alchemic element that was the key to immortal life. Remember Qin Shi Huang? First true emperor of China? He used to consume pure mercury because his advisors told him he'd live forever from it. Unfortunately, he went mad and was last seen trying to kill a 'magical fish.' You have to 'consume' plenty of mercury in order to develop brain damage. We're talking dozens of mercury pills in this regard.

Lead was once used in many paints and metallic dinnerware, which caused many circulation and mental disorders. Whenever acidic food (tomatoes) was eaten from lead-based dinnerware, people would accidentally consume small quantities of lead as well. People also complained to the government, because their property had lead enriched soil, caused by leaky fuel-pumps, which also contained lead.

Lead is still used for ammunition, paints and illegal toys. People still get shot, inhale dust from sanded walls and suck on lead-based pacifiers. My point is these people are not crazy; it happens everyday. You'd have to ingest a meals-worth of lead or mercury to damage your nervous system. I doubt your problems are caused by these elements. I know mine aren't.

No I am asking Salma Hayek to host, and then be my pillow. She hasnt got back to me yet, but I expect any day now. LOL

I knew about the mad hatter thing, didnt know about the eating mercury pills idea. I am going to take a skip on that one.

So at least I am not the only one who has picked up mercury or chewed on lead. That makes me feel better.

Hi mate,
My PC crashed when I was trying to find you a link. Luggs and cloggy sorted it for me. There have been several stigs, all wearing the same outfit and simpson helmet. The first stig was called Perry Mcarthy. So we must be related.

BBC - Top Gear - Homepage

I don't watch to much TV, but I never miss top gear. It rocks.

i used to and still wonder if those paint chips in all the places i've lived before were lead based paint and maybe that explains why i'm slowly losing it.

As they say around here.

Paw, kin I has a new lead sppon? I's don chawd this her won to ah nub.

I like Stig. I watch Top Gear on BBC America. Last week, he tested some Swedish car, it was a Koenig some or other; sorry I can't remember. The car alledgely holds the world record for a traffic ticket. It was reported that some guy in Texas was clocked at 241 MPH in one and got pulled over. Why he stopped, I don't know.
As for lead fishing weights: been there done that.
Mercury: we used to bust open old thermostats and play with it. It was used as weight on kinda a pendulum and as the temperature decreased it would slide to the other end of the tube and make contact with a switch that would start the furnace.

Pretty stupid looking back at it now but that's part of growing up I guess.
