Never thought FI requires cold start??

Tried starting the bike but it didn't. Thought battery was down even though no such indicator on the console. Thought new speedo was the problem but turned out it wasn't. Even after charging it didn't start. Then tried push starting it but no avail. Then just thought what the heck and pressed the starter switch for sometime. As before there was some smoke out of the pipes with a small blast. Then gave it some throttle and held it still at 4K and bingo it started. Let it warm up for a while and shut it off. Tried starting it again and it did. We have been seeing 30-40F here but never thought a FI bike can go cold.

I think you have some other issue you need to keep looking for (low idl or bad temp sensor throwing off a map maybe?) - my bike starts by turning the key and pushing the starter with no drama well below freezing.

maybe low idle ... or frozen fluid in the fuel lines .. beats me .. even though how to fix this ..

Is your oil level topped off ? You may have low oil, you splashed it around till it hit the low oil sensor and then it started ??? Maybe. FI should not be "cold natured" most certainly not an '07. You diffenitly have some other issue.

Start it up, let it get fully warm, then adjust the idle screw found under the left side of the tank until it's idling around... (sorry I forget the recommended value, but it's in your manual).

thanks .. I will try adjusting the idle .. it should be 1200-1400 rpm .. slightly more for winter ..

Crazy, I have had something similar happen to me after a good rainfall (wasn't even cold) Bike wouldn't start until I gave it a little throttle while thumbing the starter and it has never happened again. I thought maybe some road grime stuck the butterfly fully closed or something but havent given it much thought becauase it never did it again. let us know if you find anything out.

I started my FZ6 up one morning recently at 9 degrees F. No problem... Turned over a little slower than normal but I would say it started after about 3 or 4 rotations of the crank. It went to high idle on its own and then low idle after a few minutes. My brothers V-Star 1300 on the other hand... LOL.. That doesnt like cold at all.

Rode back from a friends house at 3am temp was around 10f or so and without a hint of hesitation she turned. This things been a tank for me so far... Utterly reliable. Then again it's less than a year old...

Ditto, you nailed it. We had heavy rains for 2-3 days before that. Seems water frozen in the lines since my bike sits out under a cover all the time. I did the same thing as you did and it started.

I just fired my bike up last week while it was sitting in the garage. Outdoor temperature was about 15 F, I hit the starter and after less than 2 seconds of cranking it started right up.

There must be some underlying problem that prevented your bike from starting in the normal manner.

My bike is on the original battery (2006). It is really sluggish starting at temperatures below -4 C.
It takes about 5 - 6 seconds of turning over. Last week the LCD even dimmed. I think moisture may be an issue as it was freezing and foggy.

My friend at work has a Harley (Yeah I know, I still speak to him). He has to run his Fat bob, jimbob, soft-tail square boy on 99 RON in the winter or it just misfires and it freezes his lines by the time he has got to the end of the street on 95 RON.

That's weird. My bike has trouble starting when it's warmed up(if you start it up within 5 minutes of shutting it down) it'll sputter and come to a slow start. Starts perfectly when it's cold though.

You may need to richen ur map at lower rpms.
