Does anybody know what is the decibel output of the stock exhaust???
I red online that the 2 bros output is about 101 dba.

Stock exhaust is about 85Db, i think...as for a set of 2Bro's, 101Db sounds very conservative, i would say, without their baffles, it would be more like 120Db......And i reckon i am a good guess, am a DJ for a living, working in big clubs with monster PA's, and my 2 Bro's pipes are as loud as any music i play!!!!!

The 2 Bro's are freakin loud.........Period!

hi,

I'm new to the forum but have been reading things on it for a while now.

I've got a 2004 FZ6 S. In the last month I've fitted 2 bros M2 VALE cans and a PC III to get a bit more umph on the tracks.

I took it to be noise tested. When being held @ 7000 rpm the cans put out 107 - 108 dB. This was with the P1 powertips on board, so am guessing a figure of about 110 dB.

The cans had only done 200 miles since installation before they were tested and I was told that this may be why the reading was still a little high. After a thousand miles or so the packing (which is tight to begin with) loosens up a little and dampens the sound - I can happily say that this seems to have happened now but as there is a 105 dB limit on the trackdays here in the UK, I'm gonna fit the spark arrestors for the cans as this too apparently cut sound output by 1 dB or so.

Am hoping it'll all be enough to sneek under the 105 dB limit!!

I'm confused with this statement as many Two Brothers owners have stated that TB dosen't do a good job of packing their mufflers to begin with and a way to reduce dB output is to get some additional packing material and stuff/re-pack the heck out of the cans! The general complaint was that TB dosent put enough packing in in the first place. This is basically the opposite of what you are saying?

; this statement/theory dosen't make any sense to me. By adding MORE packing material and packing it TIGHTER, you help 'muzzle' and dampen sound. Like stuffing your walls with more insulation will reduce the sound from the other side of the wall. If you put less in and looser, more sound will come through.

I thank you for going to the extra efforts of getting some actual dB ratings!!! Many, many, many people have asked about this!

I just installed P-1 tips (not P1-R) and found it took the 'edge' off the loudness, but they are still loud.

Good luck with getting the dB down to their track level. I would seriously look at adding more packing material to your cans. I believe others here have done it and have been pleased with the results. Might be worth a try.

I know what you're saying and thats what I thought as well but I've been told the same thing now by 3 different sets of people, 2 bros in California (who I rang up from UK to ask why the cans were so loud in the first place), the bike garage where I take my bike to get it serviced and also a race team garage (where I'm taking my bike over the weekend for a dyno run and tune up! :rockon:

The way I understand it is that a 'softer' packing will 'absorb / muffle' sound rather than tight packing or one that hasn't been fully run in yet which tends to reflect the sound.

Like I said, thats what I've been told so far but it seems to work. But thanks for the tip about trying more packing, if the noise test with everything sorted doesn't work, I may try packing it even more!!

Having heard a few of the systems in person right next to each other, I think the Leo Vince setup was most similar to Two Bros but not as loud.

As for my bike...the Two Brothers exhaust was EXTREMELY loud; however another FZ from the forum had the aluminum cans and they were significantly lower in dB. I had the P1 tips in and all that...still WAY loud. I don't know why the two were different (we could only think maybe alum vs CF) but I guess it all depends.

So, what you're saying is that if I replace my muffler, it's just going to be loud, regardless? This is a little disappointing...

the exhausts for our bike aren't really for performance. There also seems to be a consensus to this on the forum. It's for looks and noise.

If you get something with a subdued idle (Like Leos or those quiet TBR exhaust) then you'll definitely be happy. You should go ahead with it.

Just a quick update, I've been to 2 different tracks to be noise tested independently, one track put the noise output at 103, 105 & 105.8 dB @ 6, 7 & 8K rpm respectively, the other put me at 105.8dB @ 7K rpm. Both were static tests. This is with the P1 power tips in and having ridden with the cans fitted for about 2500 miles. Going for a track day this weekend. Unfortunately still waiting for TBR to ship out my spark arrestors!! :-( Hope it still sneeks under!!

Well I took it down and it came out as around 103dB with me holding it at 6800K rpm just to make sure it looked as if it was near 7K but giving myslef a bit of a cushion to make sure i was under the limit.... happy days!!!
