Gotta Love the Cool Fall Air

So I was out running a few errands this afternoon on the FZ. I'm leaving a residental area, entering a frontage road to then enter the highway. Well as I get onto the frontage road I've got the bike leaned over about 25 to 30 degrees. Nothing crazy but not upright. I'm in first gear, about 6,500 rpms and give her a good hand full. Now the road is sloped gently downhill. As she hits 7,500 rpm, the front end stands straight up while the bike is leaned over! CRAP! Chop the throttle, heads shakes, crap pants! Geez!!! I guess I need to squid around more. :squid:

lol, i hear ya man. sometimes that beast talks you into doing bad things... but when she's singing that siren song it's hard to refuse

quick side question if i may for those in cooler areas now that the winter is on it's evil way: do you notice any difference in bike performance with the colder air? i figure it's going to run a little more on the harder (as in better performance) side as the cold air is denser than warm/hot air. i know people put cold air inductions on their cars to catch more of the cold air before it has time to warm up inside a stock airbox and that results in a little more power. thought maybe given the amount of air the fz sucks in, the cooler air may affect the performance for the better. :rockon:

you might have just put the idea in my mind, but mine seems to run alot nicer in 40ish weather

yeah, i say it mostly because i rode her to work today in the upper 30's. first time it's been for a ride when it's that cold out, and noticed it seemed different, but different as in smoother, better sounding, etc. perhaps i should just run down there and do a vulcan mind meld with her :thumbup:

The cool weather and willing mount will bring out the best/worst in us all, happy to hear the ending was controlled with nothing but a good story!! I would agree my ride has seemed to enjoy the cool TX mornings of the last week or so as well.

nothing beats a cool (not cold) overcast day for riding. As for those mid turn wheelies, I've done a few myself but usually it comes down pretty quick when I shift...it'll still turn with the front off the ground...not exactly the safest :scared:

If my engine is running better with the cool air, I'm not noticing it as I worry about the colder tires not gripping as well (as if I approach the limit either way... ).

Yeah that got my attention in a huge way. The funny part was I wasn't expecting the wheelie at all! It totally took me off guard. She definately makes more power in the cool weather, probably 72 or so today, vs 90 to 95.

I will admit, once I collected myself it was pretty fun! :thumbup:

There in lies the inherent dilema with riding sport bikes...the bike tells us when all is not exactly right and we find it fun!!! The wise ones see it, reflect and push the edges, the idiots run off, dump or worse. this group seems to be the former!! Thanks for the thread, I now know to be aware when entering a TX frontage road with revs up.

It has been in the 40's in the mornings here, and I think last week at some point my intake temp read about 65 F.

I rode an air cooled bike and the difference between hot days and cold days where drastic, where in the FZ it is less drastic but still noticeable.

It was nearly 60 degrees outside while filming this and off camera I had a power wheelie that caused me to chop throttle too. When it drops to the 40's the power wheelies are so much more prevalent.... I feel your pain!

Yeah, the bikes definitely perform better in the cool/cold. thats the only reason I ride when the temp plummets like our present economy.
almost feels like you got an extra 10 HP. the boost of adrenaline keeps my balls from frezing if not my fingers.

Too bad our mileage has to drop too :-( I lost 5 mpg on this morning's fill-up... oh well... (17 deg F this morning btw...)
