Helmet Research: Cool stuff turning up!

That electrochromatic visor is interesting. For my senior design project in college I designed a car windshield that did that, to keep a car's interior cool while parked in the sun. It used the same principle that makes an LCD display work, using voltage to polarize a film built into the glass; it's called a Pockel cell. This system was already built into Air Force pilot helmets to prevent nuclear bomb blindness in the '60s; unfortunately it made the windshield cost more than the car.

This visor uses a different technology, as the Pockel cell, like an LCD, is strictly an instantaneous on-off system, not a slow/variable system as this appears to be. Very interesting!

here's my helmet,
you guys in the UK can find it pretty easy but I had to get one shipped from Italy to the US. Im pretty sure Im only one in a handfull of people who went through the trouble...
