I'm certainly not on the market for a harley, doubt very much if that machine could handle a trip to ireland to deliver it!

Try all your local papers, put up signs in your local supermarkets if you are allowed, use online motorbike sales sites and forums...and if worst comes to worst...try a dealer.

Man I am sorry. My local paper is full of them, the country peddler is full of them, ebay is full of them, and craigs list is full of them.

38% of the bikes for sale on ebay tonight (including off brands and dirt bikes too) are harleys. Its almost like people dont like them or something.

I went through the same crap when selling my Harley. I paid $21,200 OTD for it new, and then added about $2,500 in additional goodies. Had the bike for just over two years with 5600 miles on it, and only got $13,900 when I sold it. The bike was in mint condition without even a single scratch or ding on it. Used to be that Harley's held their value very well. Now, they're just like everything else and loose value like a freight train. I sold my Harley in April and my wife and kids bought me the FZ6 for Fathers Day just so I'd still have a bike to ride. I've already got 5700 miles on the FZ, and it cost 1/3 what the Harley did. I found that Craigslist was the best place to sell. Still have the photo

Tulips man Tulips.

The Dutch went crazy for tulips, the value went sky high. Thousands of Gulden, Guilders, (sp? I sure dont know) Then they crashed, sorta like oh Tech stocks. Real estate, basicly anything that gets over valued.

In my mind a if my 7000$ fz6 or a 11000$ VFR or a 13,000$ FJR will do every thing a 20-35,000$ bike will do, somebody is getting screwed. It sucks though. I am on the lookout for a scratched up uglified 600 on the cheap for a track day bike, all there is to buy is Harleys.

In all sincerity, did you think you got 21K worth of motorcycle? I guess I just don't get how they can charge that much, are they that comfy, or that high quality to justify that much $$? or is it just the name and image that you're buying?
Im not trying to be a smartass, I just never understood what the cost was all about

In short NO. The $21K OTD price includes all the ridiculous fees we pay in CA, as well as having the stage 1 performance kit already installed with labor. The bikes base price was about $17,400 with the pearl paint and factory alarm system. My bike was a 2005, and one thing that really hurt my resale value was in '06 they added a 6-speed tranny standard, and then in '07, they added a 96" motor as standard. To add the 6-speed tranny is about $2K and probably another $2K for the 96" motor. Even with both additions, HD only raised the base price of the bike about $300.00 bucks. This made selling mine way more difficult. As for worth the price, it depends on what you're comparing to. If you look at the prices on the other cruiser bikes, and what they're made of, I'd say YES. I bought my wife a Honda Shadow Spirit 750 for her first bike. It was way cheaper than the HD, but when you take a close look at the chrome pieces, they're a chrome plated plastic. This was true of the bigger cc Honda's as well. With the HD, you at least get chrome plated metal. HD sat on their asses for a long time charging continually higher prices for their bikes and giving you the "same old bike". When the other manufacturers started offering larger and larger displacement bikes that were looking as good (or even better) for a lower price HD finally got moving and went to a larger cubic inch bike as well. Of course, this had an impact on the older bikes.

Times have changed in the HD market. In '96, I bought a brand new Dyna Wide Glide. Cost me $17,051 OTD. I rode it for the summer and then had to sell it. I put it in the paper for $17,900 and sold it in one day for $17,500 cash. The guy that bought it then had to go to DMV and pay the taxes on the $17,500 price. So I made almost $500 over what I paid for the bike including tax and license. But, back then, the waiting list for a new bike was about 1 year. So the guy that bought my bike had to pay for not waiting. Not like that any more by a long shot!!!!

As for comfort, the HD was way more comfortable. The stock saddle was just awesome and the riding position didn't put any strain on your body at all. Handling was also very good (for a cruiser) but the ground clearance sucked so you couldn't lean very far into corners without digging something into the ground. On one tight right hander, I dug my pipes in so hard, I actually lifted the rear wheel of the pavement. That one made a little brown spot in the pants. For some reason, the girls were also more attracted to the HD. I don't know it it's the whole "bad boy thing" or what.

I think if money wasn't an object, I'd have both the HD and the FZ6. I'd use the HD for city cruising or highway trips, but the FZ would be my choice if there were any twisties involved. If I can only have one bike, it's the FZ all the way.

That's a nice looking Wide Glide. Good luck with your sale. I bought my Harley five years ago, just before they stopped holding their value as well as they used to. I still see some people asking rediculous prices for their used bikes and I wonder if they ever get near their asking price when they actually sell the bike. It is kind of a moot point to me. I doubt I'll ever sell mine.

As to whether a Harley is worth the price or not, it depends. My bike cost twice as much as my buddies Suzuki Boulevard. Of course his is only an 800, but still I know Harleys cost more than the metric competition. To me, no matter what anyone says, a close look does reveal a difference. Harleys are more finished. The quality of the paint and finish is just better than anything else. If those things are important to you, the cost is probably worth it. Does my buddy still enjoy his Suzuki? You bet. Would he prefer a Harley. No doubt. To me the price of a Harley is like the price of a Mercedes Benz. Is it better than a Toyota? In most ways no. Yet, some people are willing to spend the money for them. Is it a perceived value? Is it marketing? Is it actually a better performer? Again, the answer is maybe.

I can tell you this, I have never regretted buying my Harley. But when my son started shopping for his first bike I pointed him to the FZ-6 and the SV650. It looks like he will be riding an FZ-6. I think he is making a good choice.

It is weird though, I am a middle aged guy with a bit of a gut. Still, on many occassions I have had women initiate conversations with me about my bike and how much they like it. I guess there is something about a Harley.

the Harley definitely has "Chick" appeal.... and some "image" and is very comfy to ride.

I doubt I will ever sell mine either.

it is also -- slow and heavy -- after riding the FZ6

It is nice to go out to the garage and say ....hmmmm which bike do I take today;)

Of course noone likes them they are overpriced and apart from the fuel injection everything on the bikes today match the ones built in 1983. Who would want to buy a 79' VW bug over an 07' Ferrari?

Sorry about the last post. I get carried away somtimes because my dad is a "harley" rider and all his biker buddies are too. I just want to laugh at the $25,000+ spent on those rediculous mechines.

I also laugh when my dads friends want to go to the drag strip and race me. I cant tell you how much i have heard the excuse that they had a miss-shift into 2nd or they werent paying attention to the lights.

I know its off subject but i have only made 3 posts today.....gotta keep up with the quota.:D

Hey, I would buy a Harley if I had the money. But first I would get an R1. Then an R6. Then a Street Triple. Then a Daytona 675. Then a Fireblade. Then a R1200GS. Then a VFR 800. Then a KTM mew sportsbike thingy. Then I would probably get a Harley. Though if I had that amount of dough and those bikes. I probably wouldn't use it:Sport:

I like Harleys. They're art on wheels. My favorites are the Night Rod and Fat Boy. You have no idea how fast I'd buy your bike if I had the money...
