i can get a lower fairing for a 2008 fz6. would it fit on my 2006?

Yes, you will need a fairing stay that attaches fairing to the frame .. I have a spare one if you wanna buy it. $65 + shipping. I got spare inner cowls too.
what do you mean by inner cowls? the lower cowling?

No the inner fairing that surrounds the gauges. You need those too. I have both the stay and the inner fairings extra.

The only thing that are really interchangable are the headlights and turn signals.
The cowling, inner panels, windshield, mirrors, fairing stay, and gauge are all different.
You can swap an entire fairing assemblyto any FZ6.

i think it might end up being too expensive going this route if i need to make a complete swap.

it wouldnt be all that expensive if you bought the pieces used or at a decent price and then turned around and your old fairing, because fairings that are in good shape are like gold. believe me i know i was looking for one.
