The best theft deterrent i've ever seen was a bike that was painted entirely in pink, i mean the whole thing... nobody was gonna touch that thing. But then, I suppose that solution has its own set of issues :D

Problem solved! As I'd suspected, it was a pretty simple fix.. turned out it was that red and white wire that Motogiro had pointed me to on top of the battery. I had checked the wire and both sides of the connector unplugged - but turns out one of them, although totally clean and uncorroded...

No, no code.. I'm pretty sure the pump's priming now that I think about it.. I mean it does all the normal noises when you turn the key on, it's just when you push the starter that nothing happens. A friend in my building has a multimeter, guess I'll see if I can borrow it sometime soon..

wow thanks for all the help everyone! The engine light doesn't come on right away when I turn the key on.. when I push the starter, at that point it starts blinking. Pretty sure the fuel pump's not priming.. other than the light blinking nothing at all happens when I push the starter button...

Thanks.. I'd noticed that and thought I'd found the problem.. but there's no 4th wire anywhere that I could see, and the other 3 are inside a rubber casing.. would be pretty hard for a wire to retract into that casing so far you couldn't see the end..? Anyways at this point I'm hoping it's...
