You are a brave man! I once decided to polish them, got bored after 15 minutes of rubbing and nothing to show for it...
Seeing yours makes me want to try again, i tried to do it using wire wool the first time and it really didn't work, might try wet sanding this time.

Just realized you were using power tools! I went all hand and wire wool on it, which was just a massive waste of 15 minutes!
Might order on of them power cones and try the modern way.

Well, it wasn't all power tools.. all of the wet sanding and areas behind and in between were done by hand. Only way to wet sand is by hand but it gives quick results.. it takes it off quite quickly actually, I was surprised at how fast things went along once the wet sanding was being done!

Did the Final Impact spark plug cap / wire maintenance today. The spark plug cap has a ridge on it that the dust cover sort of snaps onto. One of my dust covers was way too high, and pushing it down onto that ridge lined it up perfectly.

Scott (Townsendsfjr) suggested using dielectric grease to help re-seat the dust covers, and let me be the first to say that it helps a lot! Experienced mechanics probably chuckle knowingly, but I recommend this whole-heartedly.

Did some other incidental stuff, cleaned off one of the rear-sets with 3-in-1, finally replaced the lower radiator bolt and plastic radiator guard. Also wired up turn signals I got for cheap from JonJonSocal (awesome seller).

Is this not the best forum? We got some helpful folks on here :thumbup:

Yes, I had a vibration (which motivated the wire inspection) and yes, it's greatly reduced. I don't know for sure if it was the wire maintenance or just putting the lower bolt back in the radiator that did it. Either way, it sounds a lot better.

Thanks for the write up! Couldn't have done it without it.

Wet sanded with 1000, followed by 1500 and then mothers mag and aluminum polish! Approx 2 hours.

Nice - Me likes! Where from and what kind of adhesive? Will they come off if wanted off?

Its on my list of Wants, but has not come full circle yet.

Also - how long do you have to place them on Simmer on the Crock pot for proper operation? lol

Haha. Made me giggle. Came with a peel off wax paper hiding the adhesive. Will come off when I want it to, and I shouldn't need heat or chemicals to take it off. Got them for around 50 bucks from their website.

No crock needed but since I don't keep my house above 80 degrees I had to heat the tank with a hair dryer.

I'm actually painting next! Yes, wtf am I thinking putting this on before painting? Well, going with plastidip which is a mechanical bond instead of chemical, so I think that if I put the grips on over that they/I would peel them off, so I'll just paint around/ over them and it'll work out. So imagine that tank in pearl white. Watch out ladies :)

On a naked bike it's really easy - 3 bolts and then disconnect the fuel pump wires (two clips), pull off one of the vent hoses, pull the other through the frame and disconnect the fuel line from the pump to the engine (quick disconnect). On a faired bike you'll have to partially remove your fairing to lift the tank off, but for the most part it's really easy.

Adding to the above -
When reconnecting the high pressure hose to the pump, wipe away all dirt I lube the pipe stub with gas. You don't want to abrade the o-ring inside and risk a fuel leak.

They are removable but are indeed, VERY sticky!!!

Extremly well made, fits like a glove.. The hardest part is marking off both sides so their equal. I used masking tape and marked the tape. On the rear (where the boys reside), I ordered a rectanglur one, cut it down some and it keeps the paint pristene..

Bone stock FZ6 calipers (but re-built), silver....

You must have gotten mixed up when a "slower" blue FZ, PASSED YOU!!!! :rockon:

Love the Spencer' modded seat! I didn't have have him modify the shape at all, just soften it up a little as I was getting some vibes thru the seat. The fine tune, 4,000 RPM, TB sync cleared 90% of it, Spencers, got rid of the rest. The seat looks bone stock, you CANNOT telll it was taken apart, even off the bike...

The tank pads feel real nice too but do darken up the bike (which I really wasn't expecting) but does tie the tank into the seat/frame, etc...:thumbup:

I'll plug the Spencer seat mod. Haven't done a long range tour on the new seat yet, but I can already tell it's making life easier on my tail bone. Dude is super easy to work with, and you can specify all sorts of specific aspects of the customization.

I should be shipping out soon. Finally had my son snap a shot for body position. Obviously no chance of bringing the front up to level it out due to lack of fabric, but I'm gonna have him lower main sitting area abit to level it out some so I'm not in the tank as much. Add the tank grips and I should be good!

When I told him (this is years ago) what bike I had, he immediatly knew what mods were likely needed.

I was comfy with the way it was and just softened it up.

He had it done within a day (with notice its coming and what you want done).

His place is across the state from me, east coast of Florida (about 3 hours). It took LONGER for SHIPPING, than to mod it..


I had two other bikes at the time, so no FZ6 seat wasn't an issue..
