I've had my 2005 FZ6 since August and I have not had any problems with it. Last week I installed a Givi case with Admore light kit, blowing and replacing the tail fuse in the process. Everything worked fine and I took the bike for a short ride with no problems. I had not ridden the bike for a week until today.

It started and ran just fine to my destination approximately ten miles away. When I went to leave after about 45 minutes, I turned the key to 'on' and heard the fuel pump prime, I pressed the ignition switch and the starter turned once maybe twice, and then I heard a chattering or clacking sound somewhere beneath the dash panel. It sounded like the sound a stun gun makes but faster. I tried turning the key to off, removing it, and turning it back on. I tried the ignition switch twice more which did not turn the starter, only causing the chattering sound. I could hear the fuel pump priming again after each attempt. I ended up push starting it relatively easily and rode the ten miles home. At home I turned it off and on again twice without any problems.

Any ideas? Could the battery just be too weak to turn the starter? What would cause that horrific chatter-clacking?
