Is anybody in, or planning to go to, Daytona?

I went there yesterday and It looks less crowded (by the speedway) than before.
Work is been done on the main grandstands of the speedway and the placement of displays has changed compared to previous years:

All the displays (manufactures and vendors) are in the midway.
GoPro is there, you can register "daily" to win a gopro camera with accessories. MUST BE PRESENT TO WIN. At 4pm they will call a person that has registered earlier on the day. Yesterday it only took about 6 names, there were over 500 people registered during the day and about 35 present. I did not win!!!

All the demo rides (but Harley Davidson) are happening on the backstretch of the speedway. There are trams taking you from back and fourth between "turn 4" and the backstretch, it is about one mile ride.
CanAm, Kawasaki, Yamaha, Suzuki, Indian and Victory are doing demo rides (in the backstretch). HD are the only demo rides around turn 4.

Something nice is that a couple of police officers from Arizona (I only talked to one of them who is retired" are doing riding demonstrations with their police motorcycles around a small setup with cones they have by the Victory demo tent. That was really nice.

Nice!!!
My plan, as of right now, is to head there Friday and Saturday.
I'll find out if I could also take Thursday as well.
I'll let you know.

I did have an awesome Friday and Saturday!!!

It was great meeting and riding with Erci and Marthy.

Overall, I did about 15 demo rides (Yamaha, Kawasaki, CanAm, Suzuki & Victory)

On Friday, I won a GoPro 3+ black edition with several accessories!!!!! I could not believe it!!!!
My name was the second one mentioned during their giveaway.
On Saturday, I went again to the GoPro truck/tent. The first name called was a guy standing like 3 feet away from me!!!

I'll try to get some pictures and videos uploaded here.
I won't even attempt to describe any of the bikes I rode there, Erci has been posting excellent write ups!!!

This one, indeed, has been a memorable bikeweek.

Congratulations on winning the Gopro. You deserve it and I like your chances if you have to be present to win, especially if they give one out every day.

Thank you very much, I was told one guy doing the demo rides recorded the whole thing and told me he'll send me the video. I'll wait for it as I'd like to upload it here!!!
The first name called that day was a female name and an older guy is approaching the gopro staff as the "winner", he was asked if "he" was the one called and the answer was "she is my daughter"!!!!!! He was clearly told, the person called "must be present to win" the guy indicated she was nearby and, I guess, he went to call her on the cellphone while the crowd (including me!!!) was putting pressure to pick another name, little did I know that the next name called was going to be mine!!!

Apart from this, the gopro staff told us they do this giveaway on every expo/display they participate. Normally it is at 3:00 pm and they have a keg of beer afterwards they start also serving beer for the crowd!! This time it was at 4:00 pm and no beer.

It was interesting as when I first met Erci, we were mentioning you!!!
My ride to Daytona is about 60 on I95. On Friday, I left home just before 7am alongside two other bikes, my girlfriend (on a Suzuki) and a local friend of ours on a Honda (first bike week for him, he's been riding since late last summer).
Waking up the temperature was in the 40s-50s and for a long time we did not have the sun warming us up. For us (Floridians riding year round) these temperatures are cold and in our case, we don't have the appropriate gear for it, we just layer up the best we could, but I did not feel very comfortable telling Erci "it was a cold ride" as he rides while there is still snow visible on the ground.
Then we remember you ride it doesn't matter what!!! Snowing, cold, warm, hot, you name it, and this year you'll hit 100,000 miles!!!

Well that explains it, no beer, no crowd. That definitely went in your favor. Never understood the whole concept of serving beer at bike events, or having the so called biker bars, sends out the wrong message for the average rider. Most riders think that having one or two beers will not affect their riding since they have been doing it in their four wheel vehicles. Being on two wheels is totally different. Would you want your surgeon operating on you after he or she had one or two drinks?

Please no Go Pro footage of those flat-straight Florida roads, but maybe the hot women on those Florida Beaches.

There are not average riders, Kenny! These are Harley riders.. often same people who think motorcycle training is for wussies.

So now what will I do with the video I took during the demos????
Regarding filming the hot women, you'll get me in trouble!!!!!

I know I'll be recording a track session with both GoPros in Homestead with my brother next June. It won't be on the bike, it will be on my brother's car, and he lets me use it in the track.
I gave him the camera I just won so he also starts filming fun stuff with his kids (10 & 13 years old).

I think a lot of the Daytona bikeweek and biketoberfest crowd might go there remembering years ago they went to Daytona during spring break. Now they are older and go back to keep on drinking. They had no "safety" thoughts during their spring break time, now it seems they could care less about drinking and riding!!!!

I'm very curious to witness a Harley Davidson demo ride!!!
Safety briefing?
How the ride itself will go.
When I did the Victory demo, ALL the people in line where cruisers, and it was obvious the "you don't belong here" environment coming from the demo riders crowd.
After one of the rides, the lead escort rider was pissed off and on his way to talking to one of the "Harley" riders that was among the Victory demo ride, "he did anything but follow any of our directions" this is the "clean" version of what I overhead from the escort rider.
