radar detector for Fz6 :) who has one

I use a Valentine 1 tucked between my instruments and the windscreen (a bit of velcro holds it in place). The bike is loud enough that I can't really hear it unless I'm going less than 60mph and the LED's don't catch my attention in bright sunlight. I'm usually looking past it unlike when it's...

    Standard exhaust + decat pipe

I put an Arrow cat eliminator pipe on my bike a couple of years ago. I didn't notice much of a difference in the performance or sound. I watched for slip-ons and got a good deal on some slightly used ones. They make for a world of difference.

    FZ6 trackbike

I enjoyed a couple of track days on the FZ6 but the suspension was extremely limiting. I put in heavier weight fork oil as an attempt to help, and it did a little, but not enough to keep the front end from diving pitifully when under hard braking. I could have spent a couple of grand on the FZ...

    Weather

We were hammered with snow on Saturday and Sunday. Almost 30" of snow in about 36 hours. I plow snow for side work and I was more than a little busy. That's good news though. It helps pay for the summertime fun! I have three bikes in the basement and whenever I get the winter blues I go...

Those of you with multiple bikes

The FZ is for the street, the Hawk is stricktly track. The Hawk gets most of the mods, the FZ just got the minimum mods necessary to make it my bike (PC, cat elim pipe, exhaust, eliminated fender, better directionals, etc.)

    What other Bike?

It looks like there are a few other track riders out there. My other bike is a Honda Hawk all done up for the track.

    Aftermarket exhaust & Soft Luggage?

I'm running carbon Scorpion cans and I did a trip from Vermont to New Jersey this summer with soft luggage. Nothing got cooked.

    Woot it worked!

I do the ground pat for any other biker and flash my headlights at any oncoming vehicle that I am certain isn't another officer. I've been warned of a speed trap too many times to not pass along the love to all types of other traffic.

Have your wife/significant-other asked you to….

I sold my Ducati Monster to buy a house. The girl I was dating at the time knew how much it tore me up to do it. Two years later we were married. She bought me my FZ6 as a wedding present (it's way more comfortable for her as a pillion). I think I'll keep her for a while...

Heated Grips for Less than $50

Yeah, no doubt. It was a chilly commute this morning. I'm on the road by 5:30, and it was a whopping 30 degrees out when I got to work.

I had dismissed the comment hoping that he was kidding. Now I'm really curious.

Red Residue on Bottom of Bike

Some times timing is funny. I had cleaned my chain, lightly lubed it, and put it away. Apparently I didn't lube it enough because the next time I took it out it had some very mild rust on it in a few spots. I commute on the bike, and work long hours. I figured I'd re-clean the chain on the...

    Something loose in front end???

Way big thumbs up on the AllBalls racing bearings. Instead of the stupid little round bearings they have long roller bearings. Way better contact area. They seem to roll easier too, making the bike respond more quickly. I had a bear of a time replacing the races - see other threads on...

    Cleaning Helmet Pads

I wash them in the sink with Woolite and warm water. Give them lots of time to dry - it'll take longer than you may think and if you don't give them proper time to dry they'll just get skanky again right off. That and it sucks riding with a damp helmet. Not that I've ever been that impatient...

Help me decide on a truck

A contractor that worked with us had a lot of problems with his Canyon. When I was looking at little trucks I thought about it and discussed it with him. The Toyotas were big on my list but they didn't get any better gas mileage than a diesel. I gave up on the little trucks, and ended up...

    Tires that fit and Reviews.

I'm on a set of M1's The grip is great - wet or dry. I got the new rear tire in early April. Did an extremely wet track day at the end of April and had no tire complaints. They stuck like glue (till I screwed up). I ride pretty hard on the street, and the rear tire is almost down to the...

Teaching wife to ride my bike, any advise?

I bought my wife a $800 beater cruiser to learn on. Did some minor repairs to make it street legal again and safe, and I've been helping her learn. I gave her some pointers in a school parking lot on the weekend. All prep work until she could take the MSF course. She has since taken the...
