I had them on mine for the first year. You dont have to take them off to do an oil change, but you need the shorter filter, and it takes a little patience and persuasion.

I think the rotors just get dirty and glazed after awhile. I clean them once or twice a year.

Yeah I have noticed it before. I just cleaned my rotors with a coarse scotchbrite pad and brake-clean. No more squeeling.
