    Could always drill and safety wire the nut too if you didn't want to weld. That would have been my solution had I read this before getting stranded. :D

    You grind the solder off the washer and shaft. In my case it was kept away from the splines and should be simple to replace and reweld. :rolleyes: :confused:

    Mine went in Mexico three days ago with 1000 miles to get home. No sign of any threads, just a smooth shaft. A couple of spot welds and a pressed on steel washer (found on the ground) got me home just yesterday.
