Letting the bike idle down may actual increase the heat rather than decrease it after a ride. Radiators are meant to work best while traveling at speed. You should see your coolest temps while moving at regular speeds. A quick side story. I had my Buell CityX vapor lock on me once :(. 100ish...

Stock exhaust will backfire as well as aftermarket, just a lot less noticeable. This is fairly common on all bikes that I have seen when decelerating from higher revs.

If the front fork springs have been modded, I have a set of stock ones at my parents house I could send ya. The front straps are there to get the front end as low as possible to help keep it from wheeling. Got any pictures of the bike in drag form?
