Perch is good. I used some Dri Slide on the spring, in addition to a touch of grease, and it doesn't seem to have had any effect. All that moves is the arm, the spring, and the cable. It definitely seems to be, and sounds like it's internal. Oil levels are good as far as I'm aware.

I'm lost as to how you find the FZ6 uncomfortable. You're almost entirely upright - swap out an FZ1 bar or something and voila. Then again, to each his own.
