Nice post! Made me smile reading it.

    Iron Butt: Ride and Prep!

I want to point out to the readers of this forum that the Iron Butt Rally (IBR: approximately 11,000 miles in 11 days), held biannually in August (2009 is an "on" year), is not a race. It is not a "cannonball run." In fact, riders are disqualified if the rally organizers find out they were...

    Iron Butt: Ride and Prep!

Bryan, with the addition of a Bill Mayer (or similar) custom seat, the FZ6 would be more comfortable ergonomically than my BMW. I may still order one, since I have the stock seat sitting on a shelf in the garage. Just need to save up the $$. Did my third SS1000 out to Van Horn in March to...

    electrical power question

I don't have the dual headlight mod, but I do have an accessory powerlet installed and regularly run a Gerbing heated jacket liner on my FZ with absolutely no problems with discharge. The jacket liner is rated at 6.5 AMP (78 Watt) and I run it full-on, don't use the Heat-troller rheostat. I...

Should I replace the turn signals?

Fishmac, the V35 PLX mounting rack should have come with turnsignal relocation hardware...looks like this (click on photo to enlarge) It consists of two L-shaped brackets that mount where the turn signals originally mounted. These brackets then moved the turn signals closer to the rear...

Riding is fun BUT Thumb hurts!!! just me or ..

It feels about the same as my BMW, but it is stiffer than the throttle was on the V-Star I had years ago. I use a Throttle Rocker on all my bikes. http://www.throttlerocker.com/

What size helmet do you wear?

Same for me...Arai size small but with the thicker cheek pads normally used in the XS. I was undecided which size to choose in the poll.

    Windscreen Advice

A different helmet can really help as can a new helmet of the same brand. Padding breaks down after a while and the helmet doesn't fit as well as it did when new. I found this especially true with HJC before I switched to Arai. I put a ZTechnik shield on my BMW and picked up a whistle which...

    Windscreen Advice

Those giant barn door-like windshields on cruisers are definitely a different "animal" in windy conditions. Many years ago I used to ride a V-Star Silverado and that slab of plastic acted like a sail. The taller Yamaha shield has a totally different profile. It is 2" taller but with the...

    Windscreen Advice

I'm 5'3" and agree on the taller windscreen. The airflow would hit a taller person in their chests and not be a problem; in fact, it is actually more comfortable having the airstream lifting the chest and shoulders off the handlebars. But for us shorties, the airflow hits us right smack dab in...

Did you drop it on the left or right?

I've not dropped my FZ yet (knock on wood) but I have dropped one or the other of my BMW's more than once, and it's almost always to the left while backing out or coming to a stop, from losing footing/foot going down into a depression. FZ is much easier to recover and save from this situation...

Finally - my first ride on the FZ!

Well, the comment about kids learning to leave their mom's stuff alone gave it away for me. Congratulations on your new ride and on falling in love with a really great motorcycle! It will just keep getting better and better!

I keep falling in love with my FZ6

Yes I am, Bryan. The regionals info should be posted very soon. I know that Kevin is working on getting it all organized as best he can, considering his work schedule and all.

I keep falling in love with my FZ6

Great analogy! I agree totally...I do the same thing! Good vibes for a successful outcome on the shoulder surgery.

I keep falling in love with my FZ6

Every time I get on my FZ6 after a short hiatus or after a significant stretch of riding my BMW, I am reminded once again how much I really love this bike!!! I did a 430 mile ride on Sunday, just out collecting mural photos, and this little FZ darlin' is just so easy to ride!

    License or bike first?

I took the MSF course and passed, but it took me nearly 2 months to choose a bike and make the purchase. It took me a while to recover from the stress of taking the class (I was an old lady, remember, and had never ridden a bike in my life until then).

It's that time of year for riders to come out of hibernation and drivers to start getting used to sharing the road....so thanks for posting this reminder.
