I have broken this once a year (during my winter cleaning) ever since I got the bike :) It has annoyed me every time, but since this part is so inexpensive I have newer gotten round to actually figuring out how to remove it without breaking it ...... So,- THX!!!

Best advice I can give: DON'T EVER NEWER DO IT!!!!! A car wash uses high pressure sprayed water, - this will get in everywhere on the bike, - in the best case scenario this will only course corrosion and rust everywhere, in worst case, the bike just wont run afterwards. Also consider the effect...

I (or my dealer that is) follow the Yamaha instructions on this, - can't remember the interval of the top of my head. They also test the fluid once a year, so I leave it up to them :)

You would have to clean it, even if you plug'ed em. Dirt seems to get in everywhere .......

I don't have any experience with the products you mention, but if the live up to their names, my advice would be yes! I spray em with some Rust & Corrosion protection 2 or 3 times a year, and clean the area good during my winter cleaning.
