My bike runs best on 87. It also runs best on ethanol free. The problem is that until 2 weeks ago, there was no 87 ethanol free around here...the only 100% gas was 93. We finally have a station carrying 87 octane no ethanol gas and my bike has never run so well. I think I just rolled over...

I will pull them down and take some pics for you. They are in excellent condition, no rash, cracks, fading or anything broken. Maybe a small scratch or two and those were from mishandling after they came off the bike.

That sounds even more like the clutch not fully disengaging since it is intermittent. You might want to lube the cable, but first check that pivot point and take the clutch lever out and clean where it seats into the part that clamps to the bar. Also, what tipped me off to it on mine was that...

Clutch issue maybe? Mine acted similar and I found that my clutch lever pivot point was dirty and gummed up just enough that it wouldn't disengage the clutch 100%, but only maybe 98% when the lever was let out.
