I would also consider removing the rusty collar(behind the sprocket)and replacing it with a new collar #90387-2504A-00 before running this countershaft again,as the rust on it may have already damaged your oil seal.

Have you ever used a plastic template to exchange/fit the right H7 high beam bulb to an H4,like the one in the bottom link ?

Scott,how about I attach the top elbow section of the new cable using stranded wire at the bottom of the old cable on the engine,then pull the old cable upward,while pulling the new cable up to meet the clutch lever/handlebar ?
