It could be the year-model of the bars you bought. Either that or they sent you the wrong bars completely. I would suggest confirming this with whomever you ordered from. I know that the 2006 FZ1 bars are threaded.

+1 on madmanmaigret's previous post... Cycle Gear offers road hazard insurance if you want it. I don't know that they have stores in Canada though. I definitely wouldn't use a plug on the track, but for less-aggressive average riding, a plug will be fine.

It won't kill you and it's better than not lubing it. I'd still give the lube a good 10-15 minutes to set-up. I'd say that almost half of the lubes I did on my old chain were done cold and I got about 25k out of that chain.
