What do I need to buy to take a bike apart?

+1 on Wolfman's comments on being organised and labeling or bagging parts. My advice would be to work on specific parts of the bike in one go, as opposed to tearing it all to pieces at once. I've just been working on my bike the last few days, and am thoroughly fed up of scrabbling around on...

Help getting my panniers 'board my Fazer

Racks or rails would indeed solve the problem. Not the cheapest solution however. I'm still not sure you're attaching them correctly - especially the tensioning straps. I tie them together (i.e. to each other), not attaching them to anything else. Then use the bungees from the passenger pegs to...

    Winterizing question

I say invest in some warm clothing and keep on riding! :BLAA: Maybe some spiked tyres too if it gets icy where you live  I stored mine last winter. Kept her in a non-heated garage (where we regularly had -10 degC) on a trickle charge, but didn't use fuel stabiliser. I'd start her up...

Help getting my panniers 'board my Fazer

First of all :welcome: There's a technique with soft luggage. I've got something similar but not the same brand. However, they are pretty much all the same. The trick is to tighten up all the straps as much as possible once you are packed. There's some adjustable ones which compress and...

A tent for your motorcycle(and you)

That's a good point. I first thought the same as most people - pointless and expensive when a normal tent will do. For most touring situations that still maybe true. But if you are adventure touring, in the middle of nowhere and have to do some emergency maintenance yourself in some awful...

will 07 fairing stay and plastic work on 06??

Hey Dev, as mentioned above, an 07+ fairing and bracket/stay will fit on your 06. But your 06 speedo won't fit an 07+ fairing. You could find a new or second hand 07+ speedo to fit, but then your mileage/kms will not match up with what the bike has done. Hope this helps.

    Downshifting problems

I've just had this problem, or similar in any case. Never had issues before but just before arriving home on Tuesday after a 40 min motorway cruise home from work, I couldn't shift it into 1st gear. It made a horrible grating like sound. Ended up having to pull away in 2nd. Downshifting to all...

    UK trip from continental Europe, September 9th, 10th & 11th, 2011

Re: Trip to UK from continental Europe, summer 2011 Ooh! I might well be up for it - depending on work and money. I'd meet you guys in Calais as would be traveling from Paris. I'm always up for a road trip adventure!

rear end feels squirrely or too light?

You can adjust the shock a little more than that probably. I weigh about 78kg and have mine on 6 as I like it firm for some sport riding. What kind of riding do you do most of the time? Are you loaded up often? Play around with a few settings and see what works best for you. And you should be...

Not sure what to make of this

The ad is actually very accurate: 'Will turn heads'. Shame it'll be for the wrong reasons! And it clearly says we need to see it to appreciate it! :D Seriously...why? Colour scheme fail.

rear end feels squirrely or too light?

I'm glad you posted this thread - I've been commuting in the rain the last couple of days and have had a few squirrely moments myself! My rear tyre is pretty worn in the centre, but the front is fine (time for a new set come pay day at the end of the month). OK so riding in the wet with worn...

    Yamaha aftermarket exhaust?

Just saw this on an advertising website - I've never seen one before and wasn't aware that Yammy made an aftermarket exhaust for the FZ6?! It doesn't look bad really, but not a patch on a nice pair of Leo's/Scorpions/Devils etc...

My gear stinks! Should I wash it?!

Well, I sent a message off to Frank Thomas, and the reply was to definitely NOT wash it in a machine OR to completely soak/immerse my gear in water as it will trash the waterproof liner. Sponge method was recommended and 'Febreeze' or other fabric freshener is ok to combat the smell! I'm...

    MX Boots on the FZ6...

I used to do a lot of MX and still have my gear after having sold my bike. I've got Alpinestars Tech 8's. Whilst they are great for protection, it comes at the cost of flexibility. Don't even bother trying to walk any further than 25 metres in them! You look like a robot with a pole shoved up...

My gear stinks! Should I wash it?!

Yes, I was wondering that as my gloves are kangaroo leather on the palms (the Aussies will be happy - a few lees roos jumping out at them!). I guess it's ok to get them wet as they are waterproof gloves, therefore designed to be exposed to the rain. But will it have a bad effect on the leather...

My gear stinks! Should I wash it?!

Ah I forgot about the dry clean option! But I've just checked the gear and it says dry cleaning is out as well! I like the bath idea though...

My gear stinks! Should I wash it?!

So, I've had my latest set of riding gear for just over 2 years now. It's Frank Thomas textile and waterproof stuff and pretty good. It's kept me warm and dry in some of the most hideous conditions! However... It's starting to really stink as I've never washed it! It's becoming a...
