72XX+ miles Nothing other than oil change. Initial coolant change (with distilled water flush) was Yamaha coolant when noise was noticed, so flushed again and refilled with Prestone 50/50. A little less noise but still odd sound that was not there when purchased with 4200 miles.

Yep it is RPM related. Noticed more on throttle and at off load.

That 666 was weird, didn't notice the numbers when posting. Was trying for pics between text, not too experienced at posting pics, didn't want thumbnails. Checked that vs new bearing, no noticeable difference, no water/rust in bearing. I think water got between seal and housing but seal...

UPDATE :D - REPAIRED My experience: Starting here Draining system, thought this was a cool pic, also removed inlet and outlet hoses. Outer cover removed, nothing strange. Pump removed, tight fit on that mounting O-ring. Used compressed air between inner half and engine to loosen then...

Noises started after flush/fill. Flushed twice with deionized water, brought to op temp then drained and filled with Yamaha coolant.

Thanks for links. Nothing in manual says if bearing is press fit to impeller so I thought I'd check with forum experts. :thumbup:

Since coolant flush and change, been getting strange squealing noise from what I suspect is the water pump. Looked up parts/info in service manual and looks like a straight-forward fix. Question is, has anyone done this repair other than thru dealer or shop? I'm pretty handy with wrenching...

Got me dialed in: AGATT, primarily commute with weekend recreational use, technical type-Electrical Engineering, ride with flow until cager gets too close then squid it until I see a cop (I'm 54, can't get too stupid), and occasional day trip or long weekend with GPS/camping gear.

Sounds like a great weekend, wish I cold make it. Been on the Blue Ridge routes with a ZR7 group I once rode with, and rode the Dragon a few times too. T-shirt and pinned. You folks be safe, keep the shiny side up, and on the Dragon, beware the tree of shame.

What else is there to do on a rainy :( Sunday? Polish the pipes (and have a :beer: or three). Did the 800 grit to get the stains and tarnish off, then some Turtle Wax Chrome Polish and steel wool, finishing up with just polish and buffing. Not bad, but not done (to my expectation). So...

Next ride on a non workday, let me know. Couple of weeks ago I took a ride up 87 to 188 and back down. The ride thru Globe would be a good 75 mile route.

And it all came to an end on... wait for it... Blue Ball Road. That guy's going to have a pair by the time he gets out.

With all the dust storm warnings, it could have been dust/sand in the one patch that your rear tire hit.
