Full battery + full throttle = success! (I had to let it turn over for about 30 seconds, then there was that puff of white smoke)
Things I've learned today:
- unplug anything which could drain the battery if you're not riding for a while
- ride more often to charge the battery "naturally"
-...
Hi Evitzee and Humperdinkel,
The bike doesn't start at all so I can't take it for a ride (yet). The battery is sealed and has previously worked (until it ran flat) so it's not the fluid issue.
Thanks,
Steve
Thanks for the tips - how can I tell if I'm getting a spark (I don't have any specialist tools handy, or even a spark plug spanner)?
I saw another thread about cranking it with the throttle wide open to clear the fuel, but this didn't work.
Hi everyone,
I'm having all sorts of woes at the moment. My bike had a flat battery (probably because my heated hand-grips have a slow drain, and I haven't ridden for a month or so).
I charged the battery and tried to start it today, but no luck - the engine turns over, but doesn't fire...
Did the bike actually start? Did it sound like you had a flat/low battery?
I've had the engine warning light come on when the battery is nearly flat, so perhaps try charging it fully.
Oops, sorry for the slow reply. Yep, I leave this on the bike the whole time. The only time I remove the Givi topbox is when I need to get my rego done, as I'm not sure whether it's legal :)
I think it's probably a 5-10 minute job to remove the ventura frame, so probably not something you...
Hi everyone,
Sorry for the delay in replying, I've been away. Wolfman, you're spot on - it has moved around a bit and scratched the footrest hangers. Damn.
Marina, there is a base-plate included with the topbox, which clamps around the grids on the Ventura rack.
Hey, I took it in to the bike mechanic today and just heard back from him - and we were all wrong :)
The problem was actually the throttle bodies being flooded (rather than not having enough fuel).
I'm not sure how this happened - possibly fuel leaked out of the tank while it was raised? I'm...
Oscar - I'll take another look and perhaps try blowing air through the hoses, although I'm sure they are not kinked as I checked it 3-4 times.
I saw that in the manual too, but don't really get why a blockage in the drainage hose would cause this problem - isn't that just an overflow hose, for...
Jedi,
I'm pretty sure this isn't the case too - because I also forgot to plug the lights back in when I did the headlight mod, so thought it was a dud mod!
The 2004 model runs fine without either of the headlight sockets plugged in.
I'll give the idle screw thing a try but I'm pretty sure I...
Hi Nelly,
There's no alarm, and the bike normally sits for a lot longer without there being any problems. I'm sure it's not a flat battery as the engine is turning over freely - it's just not "catching".
So I doubt bump-starting would help, as the problem is either no spark or no fuel, as...
