    Broken my gears :-(

Tough question - The answer depends on how much storage room you have to keep a whole engine lying around - unless you e-bay the 2nd hand engine once the swap is done. Do "the authorities" care about serial numbers etc? at MOT time. Wonder what is wrong with the engine you are getting?

    Broken my gears :-(

That makes it sound like it has something to do with the clutch shaft as the final drive shaft is related to road speed. I was going to suggest jamming a piece of wood onto the end of the drive shaft while you had the sprocket off to replicate a bit of load - but the mr safety in me held...

    Broken my gears :-(

Ball bearings usually have play in them - With bearings it's about how smooth they turn. Any roughness at all or damage to the ball cages and out they go. I was just looking on a US website and the bearings are not that pricey... but then again, I'm not paying british taxes and suffering from...

    Broken my gears :-(

If you take the front sprocket off, you won't be spinning the chain, just the shaft. Eliminate the extra noise. It will be a bit safer too. Don't want you to loose any fingers doing this Try turning the output shaft by hand - engine off - in neutral. Does it turn smoothly. If you put it in 2nd...

    Broken my gears :-(

He never touched the cams and crankshaft, so it should all be fine - though this would be a good time to check the valve clearances. Access is prime right now. Straight cut gears should not produce end thrust, but on my bonneville, the clearance at the clutch lever in 3rd gear under power is...

    Broken my gears :-(

Wow, I blinked and the engine is back together. Did you get a chance to spin the gears to see if there was any noise when they were spinning in 2nd? I also thought I saw something in one of your pictures so I made a comment here [/IMG] I would put the engine back into the frame before...

    Broken my gears :-(

Hi Adam In the close-up of the shift fork there appears to be a second touch and these do look like very slight touches and probably wont show up on the gear that the shift fork has moved into. I was very surprized in my suzuki gearbox that the fork could be cut so badly and yet still be...

    Broken my gears :-(

Hi Adam In the 10th photo down... the shift fork with "5EB" and a 6 under it seems to have an odd mark just above the B - like the fork may have flexed and touched a gear. The forks apear straight to me and some marking at the chrome plated ends is to be expected. The gear windows on that...

    Broken my gears :-(

Hi Adam, looks like you had a lot of difficulty getting those corroded bolts apart. That might be the hard part in all this adventure. Do you know how the gears work? Just in case... 2nd gear is the pair on the right, furthest from the clutch. For the output shaft, it spins freely on the...

    Realistic Paper Crafts

The MT01 took months to do, doing a couple of hours a night - say 3 days a week. Had to build a couple of frames to try and get the parts curved in the right direction so things would fit together... and even then I don't think I got it quite right. The first model I tried was the hedgehog...

    Bridgestone Tires - Which Ones?

I see there are the BT-023 & BT-023GT (supposedly for heavier bikes). Has anyone slipped on the GT version? Do they resist the "5 sided" wear pattern any better? My son has the '05 FZ6 and I have an '07 1250 bandit and strangely they have identical tires. The 021 front didn't work that well...

    Realistic Paper Crafts

I do recommend starting with one of the simpler models before tackling one of the big ones. They actually take quite a time to complete. I did the R1 with regular printer paper and it didn't work out that well, got some thicker paper and did the MT01. Nice model and quite big when finished...
