Well I was early and went back to have a go, I cranked it round clockwise one more notch and everything was back to normal, tried it up to 7 and back again and all is well.

it seems i'm not the only one to have done this. But still not come up with a difinitive answer. I'll hang on and see if anyone has an answer.
Yes, I'm doing it all the right way. I just cranked it too far and was wondering if anyone else had been as silly as me and found a way to put it right.
Yes I had it on the centre stand and was using the extension and also used a longer extension it seems well and truly jammed. I just had a thouhgt, If I got spring compressors on it, it might be easier to shift
