    Awesome trepetti! Glad to hear your happy with the COP mod!

    Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!

    Hi Trepetti, good luck with your COP installation! A few tips from my installation:- - Slide the rubber seal on the COP up a few millimetres, so it's touching the electrical connector. This lets you push the coil down a little bit further so it clicks onto the spark plug nicely and won't come...

    Interesting option you raise there FI, I had thought of doing something along the lines of MOSFETs but haven't really played around with them before. That would solve the power issue and separate it from the ECM completely, allowing you to run the coils at full power. I would think that would...

    Hey Trepetti thanks for the reply! I was curious to know about the heat and duty cycle at full revs when I was installing the COPs, and the longevity is still an unknown factor. There seems to be enough spark energy despite only having half the voltage running across the coils, and restricted...

    Gotta love the dielectric grease! I keep it handy for certain jobs. Definately helped installing the coils when I put them in. They take a bit of effort to get out so they won't shake themselves out any time soon.

    Yes I was hesitant when I first thought of the idea of replacing the standard coils with COPs. Once I started finding some links and examples of other bikes being converted I thought I'd give it a go. Having the coils wired in series isn't ideal as if one coil open circuits the other one will...

    Yep R1 coils would also work. Only ones to avoid would be the earlier R6 coils which were CDI, and have a lower primary resistance. You'll be looking for something with a primary resistance around 1.19 to 1.61, so when it's wired up in series it'll be closer to what the ECU is used to seeing...

    Hi everyone, Firstly a disclaimer- Don't try this mod, it's still experimental and if you try it and your bike breaks down then I'm not responsible! I've been working on a project on my bike, which was suffering from vibes for a long time. I had tried working on cutting the leads back, which...

    ~~~ What did you do to your Bike Today Thread??? ~~~
    Hi everyone! Today I got my bike registered and took it for a spin after nearly a year in the shed. I've been doing a few mods on the bike over the year like swapping the clutch slave lever for a longer one from a Yammy 350 quad bike, a pair of Devil Magnum pipes from Ebay, and a new mod I...
    Ok, update time! Here are the steps I took in replacing the spark plug leads on the FZ6: After lowering the radiator and lifting the tank, airbox and battery (At this point it's good to note which leads attach to each coil, so either take a photo or notes, and have the FSM handy to...
    Thanks! Yeah the 7.0mm HT lead can be felt to 'bite' into the little spike at the bottom of the hole in the coil, and I think this is because of the taper of the inside diameter. I tried a couple of wraps of tape on the HT leads in a mockup but didn't get it to work as well as without any...
    Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!
    Ok, time for an update. I got a bit excited and decided to replace the HT leads onto the original coils. I ordered 2 metres of 7.0mm HT lead, with 1.35mm square copper crossection, from fleabay, straight from England in fact. It's a lot firmer than the original ones, and just squeezing the...
    Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!
    YES!! I've noticed this problem for the last few years, and I thought it was just my bike. Winter riding was always smoother than warm summer days, and I never knew why. I always thought it was something to do with the frame expanding with heat, but never pinned it down. More recently I've...
    Vibration! A cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!
    I've been watching and considering this, as my leads have had it, and at the rate I'm going if I cut any more off I'll have to mount the coils on the rocker cover! Seriously tho,a google search reveals a lot of other bikes and owners have the same issues with spark plug leads, on bikes a lot...
    Bit Again - cure for bad vibrations, Spark Plug Caps!!
    It's always a risk trying to look for alternatives where there isn't a drop in replacement, apart from new coil/leads. There are a few issues to overcome in looking for replacement HT leads, like resistance, core diameter and insulator diameter, and of course ways to reliably connect them to...
