this morning I rode down to the dealer on my FZ6. still trying to figure out what to do about the top end noise. I came to the conclusion that I can't afford to be with out a bike and I'm not sure how much it would cost to fix the FZ so I wanted to see what I would get for a trade. after looking at the new bikes I found a new 07 R1. the sticker was 11,699 +assembly, feight and TTL. I owed $4700 on the FZ6. I ended up leaving the dealer on the R1 and got it for $10500 OTD. they paid off the FZ6 at first they wanted to low ball me on it but I urgued that it had new rubber on it and exhuast so they paid it off. I would have pulled the scorpions but they gave me $500 for them. I didn't think I'd be able to sell them for that so I let them go with the bike.

you might be wondering "what about the ticking?" they saw the bike had just been serviced and never even started it. they pushed it into the back of there shop with the other trade ins and the deal was done. I have mixed feelings right now. I like the R-1 but I liked the FZ6 also, if the FZ hadden't had the problems(my riding style may have caused??) I had with it, I'd of kept it. I have only 10 miles on the R-1 so far so I don't know what it can do yet. I will say that it requires a lot less throttle to go the same speed as on the FZ. I'm doing the whole "break in" thing so I'll play with it more in the next week as I ride it more.

I'll post up pictures once I get the bike at home.:Sport:

Congrats on the purchase Danny, at least Poorwboy won't feel left out now. Just remember what happens when you two ride togeather.
Good luck and where are the pictures.

ps It would be great if the dealer got back to you and said " Hey you bikes got a *&^%$£ wrong with it thats causing a rattle. Just so we all know.

What about an FZ1. They have them down here for $7499.00 (2007) new. Sexy looking bike but... too much for me right now.

Oh and sorry about the traded FZ6.. I couldnt part with mine right now <love>

dang!!
now we will never be able know what the hell happened to the FZ :Flash:

congratulations to your upgrade,,,,at least you are still with Yamaha family..

please post some pictures,,comparisons and the difference of your premium :D

I wanted something more aggressive, I wanted to put clip-ons on the FZ6 but didn't want to lose the fairing. I always rode the FZ in a semi-tuck anyways so for me the R-1 feels more spread out.

I have just had a cunning plan :sinister:, Get poorwboy to test ride your FZ6.
Return it to the dealer and say hey this thing rattles what gives?
Or if there is no noise get him to ask for any service receipts as he has heard that the FZ6 has a soft top end.

that might work, I was nervous the whole time in financing, I was just waiting for someone to come in and say we can't trade this the motors messed up. I was so relieved once the papes were signed and I was on my way.

Awww please do it, please, please, please. (where is poorwboy when you need him)?

:needpics::ban: lol

Congrats on the R1. I'd LOVE to have one, but it just isn't practical for me right now.

I hope you're happy with your new bike, I know I would be!

Sweet brother!!!!! If it wern't for the attractive price tag on the FZ the R1 would be in my garage right now. It was my first street bike in 15 years and I didn't want to buy an expensive bike then turn around and sell it if I wasn't interested.

Well Danny, I knew you'd get rid of the ticking noise, but not that fast. Congratulations on the new bike, don't expect the Ninja 250 to keep up :rof:

Ride safe and keep in touch, it wouldn't be the same here without you.

You're right it wouldn't! I'm thinking the site has grown from a completely FZ6ownership site, to a place where like minded people hang out. The beauty of a forum is that it grows. You make friendships, that are life long, with people that you will more than likely never meet.

I respect your decision. You played many aces on that FZ6 and worked hard to service it. You treated it well and felt you needed another ride, so you made a trade. I think what you did was fair.

Although you gave them an engine with a noticeable ticking sound, they gave you a distressed time with the FZ6 service before. Plus, I still think it was something minor like the FUEL INJECTION. A little cleaner in there and it will be as good as new.

Your first quest for your R1 is to get some stands for it. I highly recommend at least a cheap set of stands to get it up in the air. Those would come in handy.

Truthfully, I'd like to hear HavBlue's opinion on this. He seems to know about powerful engines right? He might have better recommendations.

I can't wait to see the pictures!!

no worries all, I have no intensions of leaving the forum. this place has become my other "family" I'll post pics soon

Hey Congratulations Danny. I hope you enjoy the heck out of it.

Did you say what color and I just missed it?

What do I think? The R1 is an awesome machine and had it not been for the insane amount of money they wanted for insurance in SoCal 4 years ago when I got the FZ6 I would now own one. In some ways I am glad I got the FZ6 however, I do know what I am missing. The new R1 is a lien mean fighting machine but sadly, it's in third place in the liter wars of the big three out of Japan. Regardless, it would still be my choice because I do love Yamaha.
