PROBLEM IS FIXED

I had accidentally hit the red kill switch while working on the bike.

This is fantastic :thumbup: I actually skipped this thread cos I know nothing about electrics or wiring.
So glad I decided to take a look. Your an honest man. I would have watched TV for an hour & came back explaining that the bike blew a fuse in the flux capacitor. Problem solved :thumbup:

Lone, you're not alone. I, too, have had a kill switch moment recently. WTF for a minute, stepped back, pronounced to no one in particular that I'm an idiot, flipped the switch and rode off into the sunset.

On the same level, I also had a Hulk rage attack after my bike wouldn't start after my first oil change. My gf was watching and I went to start, nothing. Everything seemed ok, but nothing. After about five minutes of her trying to call me down and me trying to cover my embarrassment, I realized in my near-endless struggle to remove the oil filter, I knocked her into first gear. Put it in neutral, started, and walked inside like a beaten dog while she laughed.

All said, I can laugh at the stupid stuff. I'd rather f up the easy and succeed on the hard.

Either way, I've been there.

Why? Then you just leave the key on and run down the battery um.. er.. so I have heard.

I always shut it off using the stand. As soon as I park I put the side stand down, then take the key off.

I had the same scenario with my neighbor and his ATV last week. No start. He called 2 super tech other neighbors who had meters and chargers and all kinds of **** torn apart when I strolled on the scene. The first thing I looked at was the kill switch. It was on but the feeling was that it was defective. So I asked innocently if it was in neutral because I didn't see a green light. That was met with rolling eyes and muttering and more discussion about bad wiring. None of it in my direction. Turns out it was in gear the whole time. Guess who is the NEW super tech on Market St? :rockon:

it keeps your hands on the bars and your right hand on the brake to prevent the bike from moving until the engine stops.

I always park in first gear and want to keep the clutch in and the brake on until it stops.

I'm glad it was an easy fix. (Well, not so easy on the pride, but easy on the fixing it part!)

I had my boat winterized at the dealer one year. In the spring it would not start or fire at all. Killed the battery. Put on Jumper cables and it just would not start.

I called the dealer up and went up one side of him and down the other!

He then asked if I checked the kill switch...


You know the rest of this story! Doah!

I'm with Krid. I got in to the habit from the MSF course. They insisted on it. It's always kill switch first, then key off. Once you're in the mode it seems weird to be reaching for the key first.

I always put it in 6th gear, hold the front brake tight, and stall it out.

I learned the same thing in the MSF class. Reason being in the event of an emergency the kill switch is the quickest way to stop the motor. I use the kill switch pretty much every time I stop it.

Yep... this is the most natural way for me too, and it seems a very safe way as well. I was thinking of rewiring my kill switch to a chain gun.

Or you could just man up and ride it out. Just keep upshifting everytime you hit the limiter.

Then when it is convenient just turn off the bike, put her in neutral and coast to a nice easy stop from top 6th gear all the way down....that's how a REAL man would do it.
