My bike has 2008 features, but is a 2009 on paper

Hello all,

I'm new here and would like some advice. I bought my FZ6 new from a dealership about 2 weeks ago. I'm new to these so I thought I was getting a 2009 because well, the title and all the paperwork says 2009 and it only had 3 miles on it.

So, after researching parts for my bike I noticed something funny. The seat on my bike looks like the seat on the 2008. I'll have to also check the headlights when I get home too because I think both headlights work together on the 2009 models and the 2008 looks like one is out.

Is it possible someone at the dealership switched out my 2009 comfort seat with their 2008 seat?

Or is it possible that they sold me a 2008 and put the wrong year on the title and other paperwork.

If my memory serves me correctly, the white sticker on the right side of the frame just below the gas tank has the model year on it.

I'll check it out when I get home, I'm at work right now. Still curious if it does turn out to be a 2009, why do I have the old style seat?

I just looked at my sticker. It says 4/08 which I assume means April 2008.
If yours is an 09, then someone probably pulled a fast one with the seat.

After reading the linked description, I think the only real item in that whole list is potentially the seat. Everything else just seems to be different choice of marketing words to describe the same thing.

In the past US models kept the same basic seat despite everywhere is the world getting different (better?). Could be that same situation but I haven't seen a 09 anywhere in person. Checking the sticker as suggested should tell you what you need to know about actual year of the bike you bought.

I also just bought a 2009. I can't tell the "comfort seat" from the regular since I've not seen close enough pics. As for the headlights, the blog article says 2009 "just might" use both all the time. My 2009 uses left light for low beam and both for high beam.

I had my 600 mile service yesterday and I saw the dealer run the VIN in the Yamaha system, and it came up "2009". I want to know about the seat too--whether I have the improved, included "comfort seat" or not!

It seem Yamaha replaces the black frame and swingarm with silver instead of matt black.

2009 only has single light on as well (you can see that on the pictures of the bike on Yamaha site). As for the seat, pictures do make it look different, but I do not think it is the "comfort" seat since it is still an option for 2009 (according to Yamaha web-site).

Best thing is to check the manufactured date as other's said which on the side of the bike. On occasion, specs change in mid year (I am not sure if this is true for 2009) so when it was manufactured sometimes makes a difference.

It would be very unusual for a dealer to make up paper work on a new bike that states different model years since they can get into a lot trouble if they do that so I seriously doubt they would risk that.

I"m not sure about bikes but in auto's the production for the next model year typically starts in April / May. You can often pick up 'next years' model in the later months of the year. I think the Camaro is a 2010 model?

Correct. The model year generally doesn't match up with the actual year, and they're generally built prior to the model year (09's are built in '08 because the new model year starts around September).

I bought an '08 a few months ago and saved quite a bit over an '09. No store in MD was even stocking the '09s and sold off the remaining '08s for
> $1000 under list. Now, all you can find are FZ6Rs. After sales like that I think this may be the last year for this bike in the US. More's the pity.

Thanks all, my questions have been answered. The site that I looked at said the comfort seat was standard for 2009 and every picture I saw of an 09 had it too. I guess it's not standard though. Thanks for the replies.

yeah, i think when they first came out i remember seeing a thread where everyone was really excited seeing pictures of the 09's having a comfort seat... im pretty sure someone went so far as to email yamaha and it turned out they were showing the seat as an "option" not standard... tricky tricky.

Yep, I've seen the same. Nothing but FZ6R's around here (MA). I've stopped in 3 or 4 shops. Every one of them said they could get the bike but don't stock it.

Same thing over here. I only found 1 place out of 4 that had the FZ6 in stock this year. Looks like they may be phasing it out.

Oh well if they don't come out in 2010 i guess i will just have to purchase the street triple r. I would never buy the FZ6R

I like the FZ6R only for the nitch it fills. Personally I like the better built, cleaner FZ6. But the R is a 'cool' looking bike that is a pretty good first bike for those that insist on something bigger than a 250Ninja and want the sport bike look. I wouldn't own one but it isn't a bad bike. I hate to see it fazing out the FZ6 though. There aren't any clean standards out there anymore. The FZ6 and Honda 599 were my bikes of choice.

I have an 09 and they DO NOT come standard with the comfort seat, and they do not have two low beams standard. I did the bd43 mod so now I do have two low beams.
