Acura RSX S-Type vs Mitsubishi Eclipse GT

Which one would you buy and why?

I drove several Integras (earlier RSXs). I even had a Type R for a few years. Then I bought a Subie for the AWD since I moved to Utah and drove a lot in the snow. Man was that a :eek: .
Turbo = Fun. And talk about easy upgrades in power. Light exhaust and tuning mods can yield up to +70 hp and +70 Tq. :ban:
Then you can start looking at bolt-on turbo mods that can put down +300hp/tq to the wheels (low 12's in the 1/4) for under $1K!
And quality? They run forever.

Don't take my word for it. Go test one. Have fun!

Between the two cars, I would definitely choose the RSX Type-S.

With that high reving motor, its a car that thinks its a motorcycle. Plus you also have Honda reliability and fuel efficiency. Of the sport compacts, I think the RSX is one of the best buys out there. I've driven one and ridden in many. Interior quality is good, sport seats are comfy, and the transmission is snickity snick smooth. The only problem that I found with the RSX is rear seat room. Carrying passengers can be a problem if they are too tall.

As for the eclipse, I think that car is way too big and too heavy. I voted for the RSX in the pole, but the Mazda3 is also a very nice choice with more passenger room and a bigger motor.
 
300ZX's are awesome too. 350Z's aren't bad, they're just too expensive for what they are.

Just promise us this. No matter what car you go with, DO NOT ****ING RICE IT OUT.

I don't know if it still is or not but the previous version of the eclipse was a joint venture between mitsubishi and dodge. The engine was produced by dodge and most of the interior was mitsubishi.

I would be very careful of WHO you buy any of these types of cars from. I would lean towards the acura but for some reason I feel like out of the two a previous owner is more likely to race the acura more than an eclipse.

Wow this is what I was thinking too. The new direct injected turbocharged Ecotec is a fantastic engine. Car and Driver has raved about it. It lapped VIR within a 1/2 second of a 350Z Track. Not to mention a Subaru WRX, Mitsubishi Evolution MR and the 400+ hp Lexus IS-F. It is seriously one of the most well rounded sports cars on the market. And the fact it is under 24k is just icing on the cake.

The other car I was thinking of is the GTI/GLI. Used '07 models are floating around the 17k mark.

I like the RSX, that little motor is a screamer. That being said, it had no power below 6000 rpm. Taking off from stoplights, Geo Metros suddenly seem to have the power of a Corvette. Once you get to 6k, say bye bye though. The short gearing makes reaching the upper echelons of the RPM range easy. You may tire of keeping things on boil just to deal with traffic though. Overall it is a well rounded car that can be loads of fun and still return decent fuel economy.

Don't underestimate that car, it will nip at the heels of a 350Z on a race track. The new 260 hp Ecotec and the new chassis mods make this car a contender. To bad GM did not fix the interior...:(
 
I voted for the Acura, I love the lines, not as blobby. Its just sexier. I drove an Integra (sp?) eons ago... that was a wicked car to drive, shifted like a dream.
 
i drove a really old Acura Saturday at our Church car wash and it was smooth as glass! i think it was like a 95 or something! I was really surprised, and i own a Honda Accord and it made mine feel like a piece of crap!
 
I dont wanna beat up on acura, but i will put in my opinion... well.. more of my dads..

he has been a firefighter for the last 30 years... all the time whne i was looking for a new car (recently) i would hear about which ones are not so good to be in and which ones are.. he said that acura's, in accidents they tend to hold up pretty well, but it depends on where you get hit.. the front, rear, and roof are all good places to take a hit,, the sides, not so good... oh and dont ever left it catch on fire, because they are they will just burn and melt within a few mins.. just figured i would through it out there.. good luck with your purchase :)

I can't seem to find a Mazda Speed3 for less than $15k... I did find a few RX8s though... like this one for example: LINK

I like the all black look... do they compare to the RSX Type-S in terms of performance? What about reliability?

That would be better for the family, but I already have a family car... I need a small/fun commuter car with 4 seats (in case I need to put a baby seat in the back, but that will be rare)... and this doesn't look as good or as fun down a canyon road :)
