Defected! Now, what to do???

They got different laws for coppers mate, they can even legally use a mobile while driving

I know , disgusting isnt it ..... Why do we stand for it , ive even quizzed a cop about talking on mobile phone's and he claimed they are only aloud to when it's and emergency situation , seem's there must be a lot of them situations then :spank:....... The royal commission up here cleaned our force up of that crap but now they've started to revert back to there old ways :(

Wolf did you get some standard cans or do you need mine( which i dont know weather would pass), and yours that ive got sure as hell wont.

Thanks Jules, But thanks to Dave getting his Leo's, i already have his on the bike!

Also a massiove thanks must go out to Mike (Ozzieboy), who very expertly rewired my original Indicators, and fixed my tail light....although he did nearly melt the rear fender in the process.

Mike also put the bugger of a thing back on my bike as well....Very Very gratefuil Mike, even if i cant look at my bikes butt anymore!!!

:cheer: For everyone...isnt grand how we all help each other...

OOPS!:spank::spank::spank: You've gotta love not being able to find the globes you need to do a bodgey job. Dick Smiths, three servos and Mitre ten to get something to do the job:(.

I don't reckon it looks too bad mate. It just sounds...well...like mine...LMAO.

Cheers
Mike

No, your right, it doesnt look that bad, in fact, i am getting used to it....could not deal with the OEM mirrors though....one ride of looking at my elbows, was enough of an excuse for me to stop at the bike shop today, and buy a replacement Bar end mirror for the one smashed in the crash.

Still sounds like a sewing machine though....

Told Matt what happened today, he was going nuts! Dont reckon they would of wanted to try and defect the mighty MT! Can you imagine....Matt would be the cops worst nightmare! Lol!

Lol,they would have to get the starforce to defect Matt's ride .

Edit:Found my stock fender last night, might put it back on sometime over the weekend, been looking over my shoulder for coppers ever since Jamie's defect, damn it !

Don't forget to keep an eye out in front of you for radars camped behind bushes, people coming through red lights while looking at their speedo so as not to get a ticket or no neck lane changers who can't turn their heads.:spank::spank:

Hey Jamie, just found this on the RidingSA site...

It was a while ago.. (11 months), but unless the rules have changed, (which may well be the case), they are screwing everyone. This guy got done for no rear mudguard, had only had the bike for a few weeks, and didn't know, the shop sold it like that...

Anyway, just thought I'd post it up.

Well, after a stack of calls and a lot of reading I have learnt a bit today.
1. Cops either don't have all the correct info or generally make sh!t up
2. Don't trust anything a supposed 'official' body says first time.
3. Question every answer!
oh and 4. Don't get annoyed before you get a response, Start with a pleasant attitude. You may be surprised

I was pleasantly surprised by the dealers response. They were very accommodating and more than happy to fix the reflector and all the underbody of the fairing at no cost to me. They also gave me a print out of the bike specs to give to the police (this was my next destination)

Second pleasant surprise was at the police station. A fantastic old skool copper came out and basically told me that, because of the age of the bike and the fact that I could prove the bike never had a mudguard from the manufacturer it was over the top. The standard it was being compared to was not applicable. AND the fact that I was told to go to regency park was WAY over the top for this defect. Mudguards and minor defects only need to go to a police station, so heads up anyone else, question them sending you to regency, it's just a cash grab.

Very interesting, but i already knew that they make it up as they go along....i have been very pleasent in all my dealings with this issue, since the "incident".

My take on this whole affair is that, seeing as the cop did not pick on the far more obvious things like exhaust, one mirror, and lack of chain guard...i am sure it was just a case of let's defect him, and get him down to Regency, so they can go over the bike with a fine tooth comb....so i plan to be one step ahead, hence, the pipe swap, etc.

By the way, on the defect notice, there are 3 options for the coppers to tick, 1. Get it fixed, take it to a cop shop, 2. get it fixed, book it in at regency, get an inspection number, then take it to the cop shop so you can get it "cleared" before taking it to regency to get it "cleared" again (hence my thoughts on the "fine tooth comb" thing)...why does it need to be cleared twice, why do i need to give them $24 to inspect it again, after the police have already cleared it!!!!, and 3. Bike must be fixed, booked into Regency, and must not be ridden till such time as it is taken to Regency.

This is a cash grab!

Way back in the early '90's when I took my Z1000 in to Regency to get the reg changed to S.A I had no horn, illegal pipe and no mudguard and he didn't check anything, just made sure the numbers matched the papers and that was it ,they didn't even ask for the Tassie plate, still got it in my shed ,lol

That was then, this is now, in the age of hidden camera's, fine's by mail, etc....am guessing with all the "hype" in the papers about Motorcycle "hoons"...another article in today's paper, they will have a different attitude...justto cover their butt's more than anything...nothing like media attention to make government agencies tighten their policies...but i hope you right, Mick, i really do.

Oh ,I didn't mean to make it sound that it would be that easy now ,but it was then.........and for your sake I hope it still is too

That inspection of engine number is just for the state to state rego transfer, and checks that the engine number matches what it is supposed to and is just a formality really. Same thing for cars. Defect is another story.

Of course I never did see the copper put 45kg of weight on the bike before measuring the 45 degree angle thing which is a requirement of ADR blah blah which refers to the mudguard on "L" class vehicles.....yeah, I did some reading.

14.3.3.1 Rear ‘Axle’ and Side-car
The wheel guard provided for the rear wheel and for the wheel of any side-car must extend not less than from a point vertically above the foremost part of the wheel rearward to a point not higher than the intersection of the arc of the wheel guard with a line through the centre of the wheel at 45 degrees to a horizontal plane through the centre of the wheel when a mass of 45 kg is distributed in the saddle of the vehicle at its ‘Unladen Mass’.

Like I said. I didn't see any 45kg weight.:spank::spank::spank:

http://209.85.173.132/search?q=cach...ees&hl=en&ct=clnk&cd=5&gl=au&client=firefox-a

Wheel guards is section 12.

Enjoy.....don't hurt your brain reading this crud...LOL.:D

To late for the warning now :spank: , i hope someone intelligent can make sense of that dribble :D coz im a laymen and i cant :D way over the head of a simple truckie

Once you get a handle on the layout and just watch for "L" class relevant stuff it's no so bad. Certainly not as good a read as Eragon or Nightfall....lol.

Cheers
Mike
